Minutes of General Meeting

1. Minutes of last meeting
• Agreed.
2. Undergraduate Challenge
• Andrew mentioned that there will be many teams for each
university;
• Therefore there will be 2 semi-finals hence eight teams will
compete for finals in which two teams will compete;
• Most probably a copper pipe will be used for the rig.
3. GMYMP presentations to other universities
• Presentation was very successful as almost 25 members
signed up;
• Frankie will contact Peter in Bolton university for possibility of
arranging similar presentation there;

• Haris will send new members’ details to Frankie who can send
a welcome message to mew members along with latest
minutes.
4. Our world in 2050
• Everyone will send volunteers’ list to Asad who will compile
them;
• North East panel’s chairman with two school teachers will also
participate for Kingsway school event;
• Frankie will contact Tindle centre for possible speakers for
both the events;
• Volunteers need to give information to Andrew who can pass
it to authorities in school, who can carry out basic security
checks.
5. Meet the engineer
• Andrew mentioned that IChemE is not attending the event as
speculated before;
• Following exhibits were confirmed
o Model of Tumbleweed (UAV)
o Model Yamaha Engine
o Thermal Camera
• Andrew sent details for engine collection to Hisham who will
try to collect it otherwise pass on the information to Gareth or
Frankie;
• Volunteers for the event are as following;
o Hisham (Coordinator)
o Haris
o Asad
o Vicky
o Sashi
• Andrew also passed on the details of contact at MOSI;

• The event will take place from 10.30am to 3.30pm;
• Asad and Haris will be trained on usage of thermal camera for
demonstration on the day.
6. Brewery and theme park visits
• The matter is still ongoing as matters to which panel is
arranging which tour has still to be confirmed;
7. Jaguar Tour
• The Jaguar facility is located in Halwood, Merseyside
• Company charges £10 for the tour which includes tour of the
assembly plant;
• It was agreed that event should take place on any
Wednesday;
• Tour will have capacity for 30 members;
• Date and rest of the details will be revisited once budget has
been confirmed by the HQ.
8. Bridgewater Hall Concert
• 3 – 4 volunteers are needed to attend an event at
Bridgewater Hall which includes interaction of engineers with
students who can help them understand the prospects of
engineering;
• Event is taking place on Saturday 30 th May 2009.
9. Correspondence
• Andrew received an email which requires some engineers to
volunteer and develop a presentation for a school teacher
which help GCSE students understand how mathematics is
applied to engineering.
10. Treasurer’s Report
• £ 383 has been provided by NWYMP;
• Another £200 needs to be deducted from the budget for next
year;

• Panel was directed to go through the budget and help Ste to
correct the budget.
11. Publicity Status
• Frankie will design small cards about the panel which can be
handed out at events like meet the engineer, Bridgewater hall
concert and world in 2050.
12. AOB
• A report about the panel’s progression has to be submitted
for YM possible competition;
• Andrew mentioned that this is very important for panels
future;
• Hisham has kindly agreed to write that report;
• Haris will send all minutes to Hisham and Frankie will provide
information about the events to assist him in report writing.
13. Date of next meeting
Tuesday, 21 st April 2009 at 6.30pm in B10 George Begg Building.
