Around the World with
the Ulster Orchestra -
Concert for Schools
The Ulster Orchestra
is offering a great
assortment of
exciting orchestral
music, particularly
selected to appeal to
a wide range of children and young people.
The concert, which lasts one hour, will
introduce children to music from around the
Northern Ireland curriculum for music. There
Friday 4th May
7.30pm, Belfast campus
Peace and
Reconciliation:
how the money
was spent –
(the Opera!)
“A very timely piece of political satire....
very funny” The Guardian
A satire for our times. This thrilling new work
asks potent questions about the vast amounts of
public money which flows into Northern Ireland,
not just the Peace and Reconciliation funds. This
is not an opera for the traditionalist. Donizetti’s
music from The Elixir of Love has been cut and
pasted, the old story stripped away and a new
one written to create a contemporary, comic,
examination of our times.
Presented in association with the
Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival
Admission: £8/conc. £6,
from www.cqaf.com and Belfast
[ART & DESIGN]
Tuesday 8th May to Saturday 12th May
Brooke Park, Derry
Art in Brooke Park
Brooke Park is a large green space on Derry’s
Cityside. A once widely-used public amenity,
in recent decades the Park has gone into
decline. ‘Art in Brooke Park’ is part of a wider
initiative coordinated by the Friends of Brooke
Park, which aims to reclaim the park as a
vibrant public amenity, green space and site of
cultural expression.
The project will involve approximately thirty
14-15 year old participants from schools
in the Brooke Park area. Through parallel
workshops in a variety of media, participants
will develop their skills and creativity, inspired
by the park themes. Workshop leaders from
the community and the University of Ulster
will facilitate participants to conceptualise
and express their own visions of Brooke Park
through photography, wood carving, waste
art, mural painting and performance. The
four days of workshops will culminate in an
exhibition day and celebration of participants’
work in the park.
