OFFICE FOR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS The Office for International Visitors facilitates the requests for meetings and short-term visitors to Stanford University by international scholars, scientists, university and public delegations, and other official visitors to the campus. We are happy to provide this service to the university. The OIV is extremely pleased with our relationship with the President’s Office, the Hoover Institution, the Institute for International Studies, Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning, to name a few. Each year our programming is strengthened by the relations we have formed with the many departments at Stanford. We continue to carefully arrange programs for our visitors with the most appropriate people and for the benefit and interest of all concerned. Though we welcome feedback from faculty and staff, the best indication that we are doing our job well, is that faculty and staff continue to meet with our visitors when asked. Auspices: Academy for Educational Development 40 Africa America Institute 3 Delphi International/World Learning 20 Eisenhower Fellows 11 Independent 311 Institute of International Education 7 Meridian International Center 33 MCID 19 Phelps-Stokes fund 6 International Visitor Program Office 3 Solidarity Center 20 Program Accomplishments: • The OIV, collaborating with the International Diplomacy Council in San Francisco, was awarded two State Department fee-for-service programs, one for Bulgarian IT Specialists to be trained in entrepreneurial techniques and the other for Macedonian NGO leaders on conflict resolution. These two programs brought $7,000.00 to our budget. Additional fee-forservice added $2,700.00 for a total of $9,700.00. • A successful tech grant was written for $849.00 which allowed us to purchase a new eMac computer to better implement IEMS. We are starting to download programs and soon will 29
work from IEMS. We are still asking NPAs to include Stanford University CIV in the itinerary. IDC is assisting us with this and before the next year is over, I think we will have accomplished this. ª Participated in NCIV Conference in Washington, D.C. Represented Stanford University OIV in advocacy meetings with staff for Senators Boxer and Feinstein. • Collaborated with I Center colleagues and the Women’s Community Center to sponsor the 2 nd Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon at Bechtel.
