Acknowledgements
The content of the first edition of Australian Maritime Doctrine was
primarily the work of the then Director of the Sea Power Centre - Australia
(SPC-A), Captain (later Rear Admiral) James Goldrick. His groundbreaking
and thorough explanation of the Royal Australian Navy’s unique role in
national security has largely stood the test of time and remains central to
this edition. When considering the revised text, Rear Admiral Goldrick’s
contribution to the Navy’s intellectual development should never stray far
from the reader’s mind.
The second edition of Australian Maritime Doctrine has again involved its
circulation in draft form both inside and outside the RAN. The final text
has been much improved by the criticism and commentary which the
various drafts received. While any errors or omissions are entirely the
responsibility of the SPC-A, some of the best elements of this book owe
much to the various organisations and individuals who generously made
their time and expertise available.
Except where noted, all images were sourced from within Defence.
Figures and maps developed specifically for this doctrine were created by
DesignEmergency. The document was edited and typeset by SPC-A staff.
