the long wait since our last gathering in tampere, finland, is finally drawing to a close and the next meeting in norway is just a few months away. We invite you all to the norwegian coastal town of sandefjord from the 21 st –23 rd of august 2013. the nordic residents will get an early start on tuesday afternoon, 20 th august, with their own course. The venue for the gathering at the Park Hotel is well suited for our meeting and after the recent completion of the extension of the hotel most congress participants will get the opportunity to stay at the venue without having to commute to and fro. Our social gatherings will also be at the hotel. We strongly believe that this will increase the impact of the meeting since close contact between the participants and less fragmentation 32 NUF-Bulletinen 1 • 2013 29 th Congress of the Scandinavian Association of Urology and Urological Nurses in Sandefjord, Norway by Sven Löffeler The congress venue, Park Hotel, with the recently completed extension of the hotel. Establishing links, contacts and friendships across our Scandinavian borders has always been an important point of our meetings and the congress venue is ideally suited for facilitating this. the Program We have just put the finishing touches on a scientific program we are very proud of. We are aware that in times of more limited opportunities for congress travel the quality of the scientific program is the single most important factor in our decision on which meeting to give priority. We are confident that we have put together a program that will make your journey to Sandefjord worth while. As mentioned above the Nordic residents get a head start with their afternoon session on Tuesday august 20 th . At our last meeting in Tampere the general assembly decided on establishing a group for Nordic residents in Urology. Under the leadership of Mikkel Fode from Denmark this group has been extraordinarily active and productive. Their latest input is this Tuesday afternoon session which is the first of its kind in the history of NUF. Mark Soloway and Gunnar Aus will chair this meeting which will consist of short lectures and many case studies. We sincerely hope that the chiefs of Urology at the various departments in the Nordic countries recognize the importance of this meeting and will actively encourage their residents to participate! There are two morning sessions on Wednesday divided between SPCG with an update on current and future studies and the LUTS group of NUF and their
course on urodynamics. More focus on urological training in the Nordic countries will be given before lunch with a session chaired by Marianne Brehmer. The Wednesday afternoon session is dedicated to bladder cancer with formidable lecturers as Mark Soloway, Per-Uno Malmström and Rolf Wahlqvist. We are also very pleased to announce that Nick James from Birmingham, UK, who impressed all of us with his talk on radiation of bladder cancer at EMUC in Barcelona, has agreed to participate. After a short poster session we will then get to the official opening of the congress and the get-together dinner at the hotel and its gardens. Thursday morning will start with a cutting edge session on treatment options for the oligometastatic patient with prostate cancer. There are some very interesting developments in this field and we have secured Göran Ahlgren from Sweden, Peter Iversen from Denmark and Vincent Khoo from the UK to give us an update on the field. The role of primary treatment of the prostate in these patients, CyberKnife radiation of single metastasis and the latest in hormonal treatment will be addressed in this session. The afternoon session is dedicated to evaluation and treatment of urinary stones. The title really says it all: PSA is SEXY: Personalized Stone Approach is about Stones, Evaluation, X-ray – and Y. Palle Osther, Kim H Andreassen, Susanne Osther, Arto Mikkola, Klas Lindqvist, Marianne Brehmer, Robert Swartz, Per E Låhne and Øyvind Ulvik from the Nordic Stone Group will share their insights with us. I guess one will have to travel far to get to hear a more knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining gang of doctors! The congress dinner is scheduled for the evening where we will be entertained by the Sandefjord Big Band at the hotel’s ballroom. On Friday morning the Reconstructive Group of NUF will host a plenary session on penile surgery. Ralph Peeker will chair the meeting and we will hear about all the goodies such as Fractures, congenital curvatures, Peyronie, priapism, circumcision and phalloplasty. The last session Friday afternoon will address the clinical implications of MRI in the treatment of localized and locally advanced prostate cancer. The grand master of prostate MRI, Jelle Barentsz from The Organizing Committee welcomes you to Sandefjord. Nijmegen, will chair this meeting and will give us a state-of-the-art lecture on the subject. The role of MRI in staging and follow-up of active surveillance patients will also be high-lighted and we will hear from Aker Hospital and their experience on MRI/US fusion technology. There will be more detailed information on the program as we get closer to the congress so stay tuned on www.nuf2013.no. symposium We have had intensive and fruitful contact with our industry sponsors and they have from the very beginning been most valuable and enthusiastic partners in planning this meeting. They have all agreed on organizing various breakfast and lunch meetings which we hope you will find interesting. They have gone to great lengths to make sure these symposia will not lack quality! Posters and oral Presentations Abstract submission has been good and the scientific committee with members from all Nordic countries and under the stern leadership of Alexander Schultz is in the process of evaluating the various contributions. It is likely that most abstracts will be presented as short oral presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations. transportation Sandefjord is well connected to the outside world via its own airport at Torp which is a 15 minutes drive from Park Hotel and the congress venue. There are direct flights to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Stockholm, London and Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim and many other European destinations. There are hourly train connections between Oslo Airport Gardermoen and Sandefjord and the train journey takes approximately two hours. There is a ferry terminal in central Sandefjord operated by Color Line and regular connections to Strömstad in Sweden. From Denmark there are several ferry connections daily to Larvik which is located 20 minutes from Sandefjord. Sailing enthusiasts have the opportunity to come by boat as Sandefjord guest harbor is situated just outside Park Hotel.
