6.Social Development cum Welfare trip to Mandoshi
Like previous years , this year also GRC committee has arranged the social
development cum welfare trip to the Club members. This trip has been arranged on 21 st
July 2007. GRC members had contributed Rs. 50/- each for the tour. Total of 56 members
enrolled for the tour but actually 44 members came for the tour. GRC had hired one S. T.
Bus (55 seat capacity) from Narayangaon depot for this trip.
We started @ 08:00 a. m. in the morning from Narayangaon colony. Members were
very much enthusiastic and joyful. Music system arrangement was done by Shri. D. V.
Mule in the bus.
We reached the Bhimashankar at 11 : 30 am. We took breakfast at the starting of
Ghat section , midway to Bhimashankar. Bhimashankar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas,
can certainly be termed as a Pilgrim Paradise. The dense forests surrounding the high
ranges also play an abode to the rare species of flora and fauna. Situated at the extreme
end of the Sahyadri Ranges, this place gives a wonderful view of the world around you,
the forts, the rivers and the hill stations around. There are Buddha style carvings of Amba-
Ambika, Bhootling and Bhimashankar in the hills of Manmod near Bhimashankar. This is
at the height of 1034 mtrs. A big size bell in Hemadpanthi structure built by Nana
Phadanavis is also a feature of Bhimashankar. Various places that could be visited in
Bhimashankar are Hanuman Lake, Gupt Bhimashankar, Origin of River Bhima, Nag
Phani, Bombay Point, Sakshi Vinayak and lot more. Bhimashankar is conserve red forest
area and wildlife sanctuary where a variety of birds, animals, flowers, plants can be seen.
A rare animal "Shekru" can be found in deep woods. Bhimashankar is worth visited for
jungle lovers and trekkers as well as for pilgrims. After taking darshan of Shivaling and
enjoying with the nature for a hour , we proceeded to Mandoshi Ghat in the same belt. We
took lunch and enjoyed in the water fall. Since this year rainfall in this region was below
average we couldn't enjoy as expected. We have started our return journey around 4 pm.
We have enjoyed our return journey by dancing altogether. At 7 : 00 pm we reached
Narayangaon.
8.Social Development cum Welfare trip to Bhandardhara for
family members
The GRC committee has decided to arrange a separate trip to family members
( ladies and children )of the Club members. This trip was a great success. We thank all the
participants for the same.
In this trip 45 Ladies members , 20 children above 12 years and 18 children below
12 years took part. This trip was accompanied by Shri I. M. Halagali , Secretary GRC ,
Shri Sachin Sherkar , Member GRC , Shri D. V. Mule for music system and one security
guard. We thank our Admin. Officer Shri J. K. Solanki for accompanying us , which gave
us grate morale support and for his guidance & help to arrange this trip.
We hired State Transport bus for this trip. We started at 8 : 00 am from
Narayangaon colony. Antakshari competition and dance to the music by almost all
participants while traveling to Bhandardhara made our 3 hours journey , only a few
minutes journey! In between the journey near Sangamner we took the breakfast.
We reached the Randha Falls around 12 : 00 noon and enjoyed the beauty of the
falls. After photo session we proceeded to Bhandardhara. Since the sky was full of
clouds , we decided to have lunch at the earliest. Just after completing the lunch , the
rainfall brought cheers in the participants. Enjoying with the showers of rain we started
GRC committee 20072008 15
climbing the hill where Umbrella falls and dam is situated. After enjoying with the beauty of
nature and rain god we started our return journey at around 5 pm. After so much of
trekking also the participants were dancing and enjoying with songs while returning. We
have reached the Narayangaon around 8 : 30 pm.
It is formed by the dammed waters of the Pravara river. Legend has it that Shri
Agasti Rishi meditated continuously for a year, living only on water and air. Pleased with
his tremendous devotion the Lord came down to earth. He blessed Shri Agasti Rishi and
left leaving behind a stream of Ganga - now known as Pravara River.
The famous dam
Wilson Dam is a lovely site for picnicking. Built in 1910 on
the Pravara river, the dam is almost 150 meters above the
sea level and attracts crowds from all over the country.
The cool placid waters of the river run by the miles.
The umbrella falls are also in the vicinity, Unfortunately,
these picturesque falls are enjoyed only during the
monsoons when the water level in the lake is considerably
high.
Streamlets from the lake cascade down 45 meters as the Randha Falls - an ideal place to
relax and enjoy nature. Besides being a scenic spot, these falls are also used for hydro
power generation.
Mount Kalsubai
Overlooking Bhandardhara, you can see Mt. Kalsubai, the highest peak (1,646
meters) in the Sahyadri range. During the Maratha rule, this peak point served as the
watchtower. It is an ideal place for those who enjoy trekking, as are the surrounding hills.
There is a small temple at the top, with an old well in its backyard. Legend has it that the
level of the well water never drops below 3 feet.
Agasti Rishi Ashram
Situated on the bank of the Pravara River, this legendary dwelling finds a place in
the scripts of the Ramayan. It is said that Lord Ram, Laxman and Sita visited Agasti Rishi.
GRC committee 20072008 16
The Rishi had then given Lord Rama a miraculous arrow which was used to kill the devil,
Ravana, in order to rescue Sita. The ashram, although under renovation, manages to
attract crowds from all over.
Ratangadh
The fort lies only a few kilometers away from the MTDC resort. It was captured by
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and was only of his favorites. The fort is a breathtaking view
and provides ample grounds for trekkers.
Amriteshwar
This temple dates back to 1100 AD. Built in a distinct Hemadpanti style, the
intricately carved temple still stands proud. Other places worth visiting are Konkan Kada
(another trekker's delight), a small garden and a swimming tank.
