Cultural Events - February to June 2010 - University of Ulster

The collection contains fashionable costume and accessories
from the eighteenth century to the present day. The accessories
on display in this exhibition range from a pair of eighteenthcentury
shoes to the recent acquisition of a Luella handbag.
There are also examples of nineteenth century corsets, along
with hats from the 1950s and 60s, together with finelyembroidered
purses and shawls. All of these illustrate the
diverse use of materials, embellishments and techniques
within this fascinating and extensive collection.

The acclaimed folk and blues
musician Jack Harris presents two
workshops prior to his evening
concert on 9th February.
The guitar workshop, with material
from basic finger-picking song
accompaniment and tips on
increasing dexterity and technique
through to ideas for embellishing
simple chord progressions, licks
and fills across folk, blues and jazz,
altered tunings and extended
harmony, will have something to suit
beginners, advanced players and
levels in between.
In a song-writing workshop for
either aspiring or more seasoned
song-writers who want to hone their
skills, participants will receive advice
on chord progressions, narrative
song-writing, using words and music
against each other, writing ‘hooks’
and avoiding cliché.
