Dartmouth’s Newest Trustees BADA welcomes Annette Gordon-Reed to her new trustee role (as of February) following her acclaim as the author of “The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family,” which won 16 awards, including the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in history. She was awarded the MacArthur “genius” Fellowship for her scholarship on Thomas Jefferson and was a recipient of the National Humanities Medal. John A. Rich, MD, MPH, was appointed to the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees in 2009. He is the Director of the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice and chair of the Department of Health Management and Policy at the School of Public Health. Dr. Rich is professor and chair of the department of health management and policy at the Drexel University School of Public Health. He is a 2006 MacArthur Award recipient, and his research interests include men’s health, violence and trauma, urban health issues and racial and ethnic health disparities. Rich ’80 - Trustee Hanover Hall Partners HHP in Montreal 2009 - John Rassias ~ Honoree About twenty-five alumni from classes 1971-1976 gathered in Montreal to honor Professor John Rassias. HHP has honored Robert “Brother Ah” Northern (a Dartmouth music professor 1971-74 and renowned jazz artist) in 2007. The 2011 honoree is Nels “Welcome Home” Armstrong. HHP is a group that has placed a primary emphasis on continuing each alum’s learning about finance, health and technology, and the best ways to share this with the College. Career Highlights Wallace Ford ’69 - Principal of Fordworks, Mr. Ford is a graduate of Harvard Law and author of two books. He is a graduate of Harvard Law and now Managing Principal of Beveridge & Diamond, the leading law firm in environmental policy and regulation. Latia Curry ’98 - After spending 18 months as the Director of Special Projects in the press shop for Governor Paterson, she has joined the U.S. Fund for UNICEF as a Director of Corporate, Sports and Foundation Partnerships. Beverly Love, M.D. ’72 – Dr. Love is licensed in seven states, but has been an OB-GYN in Mississippi for most of his career. He recently joined the staff of Natchez Regional Clinic in Natchez, MS. Campus News Greetings from Hanover- We started the school year by adding the First-Year Student Enrichment Program (FYSEP) to the orientation of a select group of 2014’s. This program is designed to improve the transition from high school to Dartmouth for first-generation college students. Additionally, a new student group, the Men of Color Alliance (MOCA) has formed to create a new space for men to meet, network, and support each other within the larger Dartmouth community. Anise Vance ’11 – George J. Mitchell Scholar Congratulations to Anise who is a Dartmouth Senior Fellow, a geography major, and will pursue an MA in geography at Queen’s University Belfast. He is a Mellon Mays Fellow and selected as a 2010 Beinecke Scholar. The National Society for Black Engineer's focus this academic year is Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets. Both Dr. Robert Wallace, CEO Bith Group Technologies and Ms. Magatte Wade, Co-founder of Adina World Beverages have engaged our members and community about the different steps and intricacies of entrepreneurship. Staccato, Dartmouth's only step team performed at Kaleidoscope, an international diversity show as well as the LUL Stroll show. Through step, Staccato has brought together many students from different multicultural backgrounds. Ujima Dance Troupe will celebrate its 25th Anniversary Reunion with a performance on Sunday, May 22 nd at Collis Common Ground. The Dartmouth College Gospel Choir continues to be blessed with increased energy -- our roster is up over 130 students (4x where we were 5 years ago!), and our audience has grown as well, reaching across campus, the Upper Valley and beyond! We hope you'll join us at one of our May 8th concerts for a celebration of love, faith, and inspiration! In conjunction with the theater department, the Black Underground Theater Association's production was chosen as the VOICES production for winter 2011. BUTA produced FENCES by August Wilson on Tuesday, March 9th in the Bentley. Please save the date for the 26 th Annual Black Awards Ceremony, Sunday, May 15 th from 3-5pm at Collis Common Ground. Create a legacy through your contributions and dues to BADA.
