INTRODUKTION INTRODUCTION<br />

From the Coolest Corner er en<br />

stor samlet udstilling af, hvad der<br />

rører sig på den nordiske smykkescene<br />

i 2013. Efter de succesfulde<br />

udstillinger i 1995 og 2001<br />

har <strong>Designmuseum</strong> <strong>Danmark</strong> i<br />

samarbejde med Röhsska Museet<br />

i Gøteborg, Nasjonalmuseet for<br />

kunst, arkitektur og design i Oslo<br />

og Designmuseet i Helsinki skabt<br />

en rejseudstilling, der fremviser en<br />

lang række fremtrædende smykkekunstneres<br />

værker, skabt til denne<br />

udstilling.<br />

Udstillingen viser udvalgt smykkekunst<br />

fra <strong>Danmark</strong>, Sverige,<br />

Norge, Finland, Island og Estland,<br />

og det er på ingen måde smykker<br />

i traditionel forstand, man<br />

skal forvente at se. Kunstnerne<br />

har på hver deres måde fortolket<br />

og udfordret smykkegenren og<br />

de stereotype opfattelser af, hvad<br />

nordeuropæisk smykkekunst er.<br />

Med udstillingen bliver der sat<br />

spørgsmålstegn ved, om man i nu-<br />

tidens internationalt orienterede<br />

tidsalder stadigvæk kan tale om et<br />

særligt nordisk udtryk inden for<br />

smykkedesign, som man tidligere<br />

har set det.<br />

En jury har udvalgt 61 kunstnere<br />

til at deltage på udstillingen,<br />

herunder fem særligt inviterede.<br />

<strong>Danmark</strong> er repræsenteret af de<br />

7 smykkekunstnere: Josephine<br />

Winther, orkild Harboe øgersen,<br />

Marie-Louise Kristensen,<br />

Kaori Juzu, Annette Dam, Julie<br />

Bach og æresgæsten Kim Buck.<br />

From the Coolest Corner is a<br />

major exhibition showcasing<br />

the pinnacle of contemporary<br />

Nordic jewellery design. Following<br />

the successful exhibitions of<br />

1995 and 2001, <strong>Designmuseum</strong><br />

<strong>Danmark</strong> – in collaboration with<br />

Gothenburg’s Röhsska Museun,<br />

Oslo’s National Museum of Art,<br />

Architecture and Design, and e<br />

Helsinki Design Museum – has<br />

created an exhibition that brings<br />

together the work of a wide range<br />

of leading Nordic jewellery artists,<br />

much of which has been created<br />

specically for the 2013 exhibition.<br />

e exhibition presents a selection<br />

of unique and non-traditional<br />

jewellery art from Denmark, Sweden,<br />

Norway, Finland, Iceland and<br />

Estonia. Each artist in his or her<br />

own way has interpreted the art<br />

of jewellery making, challenging<br />

the stereotypical perceptions of<br />

what Northern European jewellery<br />

art is. e exhibition raises the<br />

question as to whether or not in<br />

today’s globalised world of international<br />

focus it is still possible to<br />

talk of a unique ‘Nordic expression<br />

form’ in jewellery design, as<br />

once was previously the case.<br />

e 61 exhibiting artists – including<br />

ve special guest exhibitors<br />

– have all been specially selected<br />

to participate by a jury. Denmark<br />

is represented by the following<br />

Æresgæster<br />

Kim Buck — født i 1957<br />

Kim Bucks værker præges af en begejstret, men samtidig kritisk<br />

holdning til smykkeindustriens forskellige kreationer. Resultatet bliver<br />

smykker, som maner til eftertanke. Bucks arbejder kan ses som ironiske<br />

kommentarer til mange af dagens smykker, som blot undtagelsesvis<br />

demonstrerer et omhyggeligt og præcist håndværk. J. V.<br />

Konrad Mehus — født i 1941<br />

Mehus’ arbejder kendetegnes af en udforskning af brugte materialer, som<br />

sættes ind i nye sammenhænge. Spænder udgør en vigtig del af den norske<br />

folkedragt, og Konrad Mehus har i mange år brugt mønter, knapper<br />

og potteskår til at skabe moderne udgaver af disse traditionelle smykker.<br />

Brudekroner er et andet eksempel på Mehus’ arbejde, som er inspireret<br />

af norsk folkekunst. J. V.<br />

Kadri Mälk — født i 1958<br />

Kadri Mälk arbejder med naturlige materialer som sten, mineraler, træ<br />

og koraller. I hendes smykker nder vi både håb (Yehudi Menuhin),<br />

men også mystik (Black Menhir), sorg og fortvivlelse (Very Guilty,<br />

Medusa V). Hendes smykker handler om livets lidenskaber i det lyse og<br />

mørke - hvilket kommer til udtryk på en meget personlig, poetisk og<br />

Kim Buck — born 1957<br />

Kim Bucks works are characterised by an enthusiastic, yet critical, attitude<br />

towards the various creations of the jewellery industry. e result<br />

is a highly though-provoking collection. Buck’s works can be seen as<br />

ironic comments upon many of today’s jewellery - jewellery that more<br />

often than not demonstrates little in the way of meticulous and precise<br />

craftsmanship. J.V.<br />

Konrad Mehus — born 1941<br />

Mehus’s work is characterised by its exploration of used materials that<br />

he recreates within completely new contexts. For many years, Konrad<br />

Mehus has used coins, buttons and shards of pottery to make modern<br />

versions the ornamental buckles that feature prominently in traditional<br />

Norwegian national costumes. His bridal crowns are another example of<br />

work that has drawn inspiration from Norwegian folk art. J.V.<br />

Kadri Mälk — born 1958<br />

Kadri Mälk works with natural materials such as stone, minerals,<br />

wood and corals. In her jewellery, not only do we nd hope (Yehudi<br />

Menuhin), but also mystery (Black Menhir), sorrow and despair (Very<br />

Guilty, Medusa V). Her jewellery deals with the dark and light passions<br />

of life – which are expressed in a highly personal, poetic and seductive<br />

Helena Lehtinen — født i 1952<br />

Helene Lehtinens smykker er som malerier eller skulpturer og består af<br />

blandingsformer, hvor det bløde og runde møder det hårde og kantede. I<br />

Gardens nder vi former, som minder os om planter, hvor man kan sige,<br />

at glasperler binder smykkerne sammen. I Temperatures-serien bruger<br />

Lehtinen både køligt sølv til at fremstille vinterkulden og forskellige<br />

nuancer af hvidt til at tolke sneen. P.R.<br />

Tore Svensson — født i 1948<br />

Koncentration og præcision er selve varemærket for Tore Svensson,<br />

som udmærker sig ved sin ranerede brug af stål. Hans nyeste værker,<br />

Portraits, er en gruppe små, medaljonlignende brocher, som afbilder<br />

menneskehoveder set enten forfra eller fra siden. Med udgangspunkt i<br />

fotograer stiliserer Svensson portrætterne og kopierer dem på stålplader<br />

ved hjælp af forskellige teknikker såsom radering, forgyldning, sværtning<br />

Tobias Alm — født i 1985<br />

Smykkerne, som Traces of Function-serien repræsenterer, minder om<br />

knapper, håndtag og knagerækker, men som genstande virker de ikke<br />

desto mindre undvigende og hemmelighedsfulde. Formerne ser nærmest<br />

stumme og tilbageholdende ud uden kommunikation, der udfordrer<br />

tilskueren. Alm er optaget af, hvordan man kan se en genstands funktion<br />

«uden at vide, hvad den kan bruges til, eller er blevet brugt til». L.J.<br />

Helena Lehtinen — born 1952<br />

Helene Lehtinen’s jewellery is like paintings or sculptures, and it embodies<br />

a merging of the soft and the curved with the hard and sharp-edged.<br />

In Gardens, we nd forms that are reminiscent of plants, with the glass<br />

beads bringing the jewellery pieces together. In her Temperatures collection,<br />

Lehtinen uses cold silver to represent the frigid winter and various<br />

tones of white to represent the many shades of white in snow. P.R.<br />

Tore Svensson — born 1948<br />

Concentration and precision are the trademarks of Tore Svensson, who<br />

is noted for his rened use of steel. His newest collection – Portraits – is<br />

a group of small, medal-like brooches portraying human heads as viewed<br />

from either the front or in prole. Taking his inspiration from photography,<br />

Svensson stylises the portraits and copies them onto steel plates<br />

by means of various techniques, including etching, gilding, inking and<br />

Tobias Alm — born 1985<br />

Tobias Alm’s jewellery, which the Traces of Function collection represents,<br />

looks like buttons, handles and coat hooks; nevertheless, as<br />

objects, they remain evasive and secretive. e form of his jewellery<br />

appears almost mute and reserved, instigating no form of dialogue with<br />

those who view it. Much of his focus revolves around how we can see<br />

an object’s function “without knowing what it is used for, or what it has<br />

been used for in the past.” L.J.<br />

Sara Borgegård Älgå — født i 1976<br />

I smykkerne kan vi øjne brudstykker og levn fra industrisamfundet.<br />

Nogle detaljer kan lede tankerne hen på fabrikker, skakttårne og siloer.<br />

Smykkerne kan også tolkes som en hyldest til æstetikken i moderne<br />

teknologi og arkitektur, men de antyder også en reektion over samme<br />

æstetiks uundgåelige undergang. L.J.<br />

Julie Bach — født i 1979<br />

Julie Bachs arbejde bærer præg af hendes søgen efter at forvandle livets<br />

mangfoldige historier til kunst. Hun eksperimenterer med forskellige<br />

udtryksformer, hvor hun arbejder med en række materialer. De to armbånd<br />

i læder kommer fra en serie, der er inspireret af bær og som hylder<br />

Liv Blåvarp — født i 1956<br />

Et tilbagevendende motiv i Liv Blåvarps arbejde er hendes brug af træ og<br />

naturlige, organiske former. Blåvarp har udviklet et særegent og personligt<br />

udtryk, hvor en sikker formsans forenes med en mesterlig evne til at<br />

lave smykker, der er smidige og imødekommende både som brugs- og<br />

Sigurd Bronger — født i 1957<br />

På sin debutudstilling i begyndelsen af 1980’erne præsenterede Sigurd<br />

Bronger sine enkle, konstruktivistiske smykker. I 1990’erne introducerede<br />

han æg- og ballonformer i sine smykker. En samlet vurdering af<br />

Brongers arbejde fra de sidste 30 år kunne omfatte ord som konstruktion,<br />

mekanik, surrealisme og «luftig» humor. K.A.B.<br />

Linnéa Blakéus Calder — født i 1955<br />

I projektet Your Trash My Treasure arbejder Calder med genstande, som<br />

hun har fundet – og som hun så tager gipsafstøbninger af. Materialerne<br />

Sara Borgegård Älgå — born 1976<br />

Within the works of Sarah Borgegård Älgå we can glimpse industrial<br />

fragments and remains. Some details lead us to think of factories, service<br />

shafts and silos. e jewellery can also be interpreted as an homage to<br />

the aesthetics of modern technology and architecture, yet it also suggests<br />

a reection on the same aesthetics’ inevitable demise. L.J<br />

Julie Bach — born 1979<br />

Julie Bach’s work is characterised by her quest to transform the multitudinous<br />

stories of life into art. She experiments with dierent forms<br />

of expression, in which she works with a range of materials. e two<br />

leather bracelets come from a collection that was inspired by berries and<br />

which venerates the abundance of late summer. C.M.<br />

Liv Blåvarp — born 1956<br />

A recurring motif in the work of Liv Blåvarp is her use of wood and<br />

natural, organic forms. Blåvarp has developed a distinctive and personal<br />

form of expression, in which a solid sense of form is combined with a<br />

masterly ability to produce jewellery which is supple and obliging – both<br />

as objects with a clear function and as ornamental objects. K.A.B.<br />

Sigurd Bronger — born 1957<br />

Sigurd Bronger rst presented his simple and constructivist jewellery<br />

at his debut exhibition in the early 1980s. In the 1990s, he introduced<br />

the ‘egg’ and ‘balloon’ forms into his works. An overall evaluation of<br />

Bronger’s work over the past three decades could include words such as<br />

construction, mechanics, surrealism and “buoyant” humour. K.A.B.<br />

Linnéa Blakéus Calder — born 1955<br />

In the project Your Trash, My Treasure, Calder takes objects that she has<br />

found and makes plaster casts of them. She nds her materials on the<br />

nder hun på stranden i nærheden af sit hjem. Smykkerne kan beskrives<br />

som en krydsning mellen en urban, visuel kultur og shamanagtige<br />

prydgenstande. Fotograet sætter smykket ind i en sammenhæng med<br />

henblik på, hvem der bærer halssmykket, og hvilket miljø det præsenteres<br />

Nicolas Cheng — født i 1982<br />

Smykkerne i Nicolas Chengs Wood-serie er hovedsageligt designet<br />

med udgangspunkt i mindre genstande i træ, som Cheng har fundet i<br />

nærheden af sit hjem i Stockholm. Værket har en bestanddel, som kan<br />

springe op og foldes til siden, hvorved der afsløres en lille radering i den<br />

underliggende træoverade. Kunstneren er her blevet inspireret af tekster<br />

og symboler, som han har set ridset i træer. L.J.<br />

Annette Dam — født i 1972<br />

Annette Dams ønsker at «ette abstrakte tanker» ind i sine smykker. I<br />

84,5 karat har hun anvendt guldsmedteknikker med humoristisk snit og<br />

moderne materialer. Smykkestenene har hun sat i bokse, som guldsmede<br />

traditionelt køber sten i, men her bruges de til at ramme halskæden ind.<br />

Aino Favén — født i 1957<br />

Aino Favén anvender gerne genbrugsmaterialer og skrald i sine smykker.<br />

Halssmykket Garland er lavet af brugte plasticposer og kommenterer<br />

på underfundig vis de store aaldsøer, der yder rundt i vores haver og<br />

truer både planter og dyr. De fungerer også som mindekranse for fugle<br />

og andre dyr, der er omkommet efter at have spist plasticaald. J.S.<br />

Elise Hatlø — født i 1981<br />

For Elise Hatlø er smykket et medium, som overfører fortællinger. Hatlø<br />

er optaget af gamle håndværkstraditioner og de værdier og erfaringer,<br />

som forbindes med dem. Hun er fascineret af tekstilarbejde såsom hæk-<br />

beach near her home. Her jewellery can be described as a cross between<br />

and urban, visual culture and shaman-like ornamental objects. e<br />

photographs bestow a context upon the works, showing who is wearing<br />

them and which milieu they represent. K.A.B.<br />

Nicolas Cheng — born 1982<br />

e works of jewellery in Nicolas Cheng’s Wood collection have primarily<br />

taken their design inspiration from small wooden objects that Chang<br />

has found near to his home in Stockholm. His works possess elements<br />

which can pop up and be folded to one side, thereby revealing a small<br />

image carved into the underlying wooden surface. Here, the artist had<br />

been inspired by texts and symbols he has seen carved into tree trunks.<br />

Annette Dam — born 1972<br />

Annette Dam has a desire to “weave abstract thoughts” into her works.<br />

In the piece 84,5 karat [84.5 carats] she has used goldsmith techniques<br />

with humorous cuts and modern materials. She has set her jewellery<br />

stones in boxes typical of those in which goldsmiths traditionally buy<br />

their stones, but here she used the boxes to frame the necklace. C.M.<br />

Aino Favén — born 1957<br />

Aino Favén enjoys using recycled materials and bits of rubbish in her<br />

jewellery. Her Garland necklace has been created from used plastic<br />

carrier bags and is a subtle comment on the huge lakes of garbage that<br />

are oating around in our oceans threatening both plant and animal<br />

life. ey also act as a form of memorial wreath for the many birds and<br />

animals that have already died from ingesting this plastic waste. J.S<br />

Elise Hatlø — born 1981<br />

For Elise Hatlø, a piece of jewellery is a medium which relates stories.<br />

Hatlø is fascinated by old handicraft traditions and the values and expe-<br />

ling, strikning og broderi, som hun ofte bruger som inspiration i sine<br />

Daniela Hedman — født i 1979<br />

Daniela Hedman reekterer i sine arbejder over kroppen som en fysisk<br />

og æstetisk form. Den omhyggelige polering af tæerne i Toes bringer<br />

materialets skønhed og tæernes skrøbelighed frem. Feet, et par fodsåler<br />

i fuld størrelse, der er tænkt som, at de skal bæres som en halskæde, har<br />

derimod noget mere monumentalt over sig. Kontrasterne giver begge<br />

værker et poetisk billede af kroppen som tung og let på en gang, som<br />

noget der trykker ned og som løfter op. L.J.<br />

Hanna Hedman — født i 1980<br />

While ey Await Extinction-serien afbilder dyr og planter, der enten<br />

er udrydningstruede eller allerede er uddøde. Kunstneren har i denne<br />

sammenhæng bidt mærke i, hvordan vi ofte har en romantisk forestilling<br />

om naturen såvel som vores egen plads i denne. Hun påminder os om,<br />

at der er tale om et koniktfyldt forhold, hvor menneskeheden har været<br />

Jenny Klemming — født i 1981<br />

I lighed med en række andre unge svenske smykkekunstnere bruger<br />

Jenny Klemming naturen som motiv. Kviste og knopper forekommer<br />

ofte i hendes værker, og det samme gælder henvisninger til processer som<br />

vækst og nedbrydning. Smykkerne er et udtryk for Klemmings ønske<br />

om at debattere forholdet mellem natur og kultur. På en underfundig<br />

måde udforsker smykkerne den uklare og tilfældige linje, der adskiller<br />

det naturlige fra det kulturelle. L.J.<br />

Daniela Hedman — born 1979<br />

In her work, Daniela Hedman reects over the body as a physical and<br />

aesthetic form. e meticulous polishing of the toes in her work of the<br />

same name brings forth both the beauty of the material and the fragility<br />

of toes. Feet, a pair of full-size soles that are intended to be worn as a<br />

necklace, has a more monumental quality to it. e contrasts between<br />

the two works provides a poetic image of the body as both heavy and<br />

light at the same time – as something that both presses down and lifts<br />

Hanna Hedman — born 1980<br />

Hanna Hedman’s While ey Await Extinction collection depicts animals<br />

and plants that are either under threat of extinction or have already<br />

died out. In this context, the artist has latched onto how we often have a<br />

romantic perception of nature and our own place within it. She reminds<br />

us that this is a relationship beset with conict, where it has been humans<br />

who are the destructive factor. L.J.<br />

Jenny Klemming — born 1981<br />

Like many other young Swedish jewellery artists, Jenny Klemming uses<br />

nature as her motif. Twigs and buds are a common recurrence in her<br />

work, as are references to processes such as growth and decomposition.<br />

Her works express Klemming’s desire to debate the relationship between<br />

nature and culture. In its own subtle way, her jewellery examines the<br />

blurred and random line that separates the natural from the cultural. L.J.<br />

Agnieszka Knap — født i 1966<br />

Agnieszka Knap har specialiseret sig i emaljering. I Anatomy of Fear<br />

præges et sæt med re ens formede vedhæng af en rød farveade, som<br />

gradvis bliver større efter, at den først optræder som en lille prik på<br />

det første vedhæng. Den røde farve spreder sig som et virus, indtil den<br />

dominerer det sidste vedhæng fuldstændigt. L.J.<br />

Julia Maria Künnap — født i 1979<br />

Julia Maria Künnap fokuserer i sin smykkekunst på basismaterialer og<br />

enkle teknikker såsom slibning og polering. Hendes smykker slibes fra<br />

et enkelt mineral, enten obsidian eller røgkvarts. Stenene er skåret skarpt<br />

på den ene side og ser nærmest ud til at forvandles til ydende form på<br />

den anden side, når de enten drypper ned som tykke, transparente tårer<br />

eller fusionerer til en sort, fedtet dam. L.d.B.<br />

Anne Léger — født i 1966<br />

Med naturen som inspirationskilde nder Anne Léger nye ideer og<br />

realiserer dem i form af dekorative smykker. Hendes smykker er vældigt<br />

udtryksfulde på den måde, de består af modsætningsfulde materialer,<br />

farver, overader og temaer. De gør også brug af kontraster mellem det<br />

oplyste og det dunkle, som om de forsøger at advare os om, at noget<br />

urovækkende ligger og lurer under skønheden i de mest besnærende<br />

Åsa Lockner — født i 1973<br />

Halskæderne i Åsa Lockners Crown Jewels-serie kan nemt opfattes som<br />

improviserede kombinationer, domineret af enkelte dele, hentet fra fortidens<br />

modesmykker. Indtrykket snyder, for i virkeligheden fremstiller<br />

Lockner samtlige dele fra bunden af helt uden genbrug af andre kilder.<br />

Kunstneren leger bevidst med normer og forventninger, hvor formålet<br />

er at skabe en stemning, hvor hendes værker kan opleves som noget<br />

Agnieszka Knap — born 1966<br />

Agnieszka Knap has specialised in enamelling. In her Anatomy of Fear<br />

collection, a set of four identically shaped pendants is characterised by<br />

a red colour. Gradually increasing in size from a small speck in the rst<br />

pendent, this red colour spreads like a virus until it comes to completely<br />

dominate the last pendent. L.J.<br />

Julia Maria Künnap — born 1979<br />

In her works, Julia Maria Künnap focusses on basic materials and simple<br />

techniques, such as burnishing and polishing. Her jewellery is sanded<br />

down from a single material, either obsidian or quartz. e stones are<br />

cut with sharp edges on the one side, and on the other side they appear<br />

almost to become liquid in their form when they drip down like thick<br />

transparent tears of are fused like an inky black pond. L.d.B.<br />

Anne Léger — born 1966<br />

Taking her inspiration from the natural world, Anne Léger nds new<br />

ideas and realises these in the form of decorative jewellery. Her works<br />

are highly expressive in the way that they comprise contrasting materials,<br />

colours, surfaces and themes. e also play on the contrast between<br />

dark and light, as if they are trying to warn us that something disturbing<br />

is lying in wait underneath the beauty of the bewitching colours and<br />

Åsa Lockner — born 1973<br />

e necklaces in Åsa Lockner’s Crown Jewels collection can easily be<br />

seen as improvised combinations, dominated by individual elements<br />

gathered from in vogue jewellery from bygone years. is impression is,<br />

however, deceptive; in reality, Lockner produces every single piece from<br />

scratch without sourcing any materials from recycled sources. e artist<br />

consciously plays with norms and expectations with the aim of creating<br />

a mood where her works can be experienced as being recognisable. L.J.<br />

Märta Mattssons bruger ofte rigtige insekter som materiale i sine smykker,<br />

der kan minde om fortidens videnskabelige samlinger og raritetskabinetter.<br />

Hendes værker refererer også til jugendstilens smykker, hvor<br />

man ofte brugte motiver som sommerfugle, guldsmede og edderkopper.<br />

Lina Peterson — født i 1979<br />

Mimic-brocherne tager udgangspunkt i drivtømmer og småsten, som<br />

kunstneren har fundet på en strand under et ophold i Skotland. Naturgenstandene<br />

blev så sat sammen med de samme former lavet i harpiks.<br />

Resultatet blev brocher, hvor det virkelige og det falske bindes sammen<br />

Blomsternes ældgamle symbolik er noget, som dagens smykkekunstnere<br />

bliver ved med at vende tilbage til. I Time to Rend-serien undergraver<br />

Annika Pettersson den romantiske forestilling om blomster ved at<br />

fremstille dem på en nærmest brutal måde. Træmassen i hendes smykker<br />

stammer fra kasserede træstumpe, som kunstneren har revet og kløvet på<br />

en voldsom måde. De skamferede blomster formår med deres underlige<br />

Kristi Paap — født i 1973<br />

Kristi Paap arbejder med naturlige materialer såsom kirsebærtræ, syrener,<br />

kirsebærsten og blommesten, der giver lyd fra sig, når de bevæges. Hun<br />

søger efter «lyden fra naturen: løv som rasler i vinden, insekter som<br />

summer, og bølger som bryder mod stranden». Hendes smykker gør<br />

Lina Peterson — born 1979<br />

e Mimic brooches are based around driftwood and pebbles that the<br />

artist found on a beach during a visit to Scotland. ese natural objects<br />

have been put together with the same forms made in resin. e result is<br />

a collection of brooches that embody both the fake and the natural in a<br />

Annika Pettersson — born 1981<br />

e ancient symbolism of owers is a theme that many of today’s jewellery<br />

artists continue to return to. In the Time to Rend collection, Annika<br />

Petterson subverts the romantic perception of owers by presenting then<br />

in an almost brutal way. e mass of wood in her works originates from<br />

discarded tree stumps that the artist has violently scratched and gouged.<br />

With their peculiar beauty, the disgured and scarred owers symbolise<br />

Kristi Paap — born 1973<br />

Kristi Paap works with natural materials such as cherry wood, lilacs,<br />

cherry stones and plum stones, which make a sound when they are<br />

moved. She has a quest to nd “the sound of nature: leaves that rustle in<br />

the wind, insects that buzz, and waves that crash against the shore”. Her<br />

works make us aware of the quiet sounds of nature such as the sudden<br />

Sanna Svedestedt — født i 1981<br />

I Raw-serien har Sanna Svedestedt brugt cuir bouilli-metoden (hvor<br />

læderet koges i vand, vrides til sin endelige form og til sidst sættes til at<br />

stivne) til at fremstille mørke, udtryksfulde smykker, som ved første øjekast<br />

ser ud til at være af metal. Inspirationen til arbejderne kommer både<br />

fra natur og kultur. Kunstneren selv fremhæver bark, regnvåd asfalt og<br />

modeskaberen Elsa Schiaparellis dristige silhuetter som inspirationskilder<br />

Janna Syvänoja — født i 1960<br />

Janna Syvänojas værker fortolker smykkernes rolle, stoighed og værdi.<br />

De er også et udtryk for hendes interesse for ikke-kostbare materialer og<br />

genbrugte ting. De kan opleves som skulpturer i miniature, men samtidig<br />

er de brugbare smykker, som er utrolig behagelige at gå med. J.S.<br />

Anna Talbot — født i 1978<br />

Anna Talbot sidestiller alle slags materialer og behandler dem som<br />

ligeværdige. De eksemplicerer det, som kan kaldes en barok udsmykningsglæde,<br />

forstærket med intense farver og en mesterlig komposition.<br />

Mange af Talbots smykker er nærmest små, teatralske iscenesættelser<br />

indrammet af blomsterdekorationer, tableauer som holder fast ved<br />

øjeblikke fra sagn og eventyr, og som ofte er befolket med dyr og mennesker.<br />

Sanna Svedestedt — born 1981<br />

In the collection Raw, Sanna Svedested has used the cuir bouilli method<br />

(whereby leather is boiled in water, wrung into its nal shape and then<br />

left to dry) to create dark, expressive jewellery, which at rst glance looks<br />

as if it is made from metal. Her inspiration comes from both the natural<br />

world and the world of culture. e artist herself cites tree bark, wet<br />

tarmac and the fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli’s bold silhouettes as<br />

key sources of her inspiration for the Raw collection. L.J.<br />

Janna Syvänoja — born 1960<br />

Janna Syvänoja’s works interpret the role, materiality and value of<br />

jewellery, and they are also an expression of her interest in non-precious<br />

materials and recycled objects. As well as being miniature sculptures,<br />

Syvänoja’s works are nevertheless pieces of jewellery that are extremely<br />

Anna Talbot — born 1978<br />

Anna Talbot juxtaposes all types of materials and treats them as equal<br />

in status to each other. ey exemplify that which could be called a<br />

Baroque joy of adornment, amplied with intense colours and a masterly<br />

composition. Many of Talbot’s jewellery pieces are almost small,<br />

theatrical scenes framed in oral decorations – tiny tableaux capturing<br />

moments from mythical legends and fairy tales, often populated by<br />

orkild Harboe øgersen præsenterer en serie med brocher og vedhæng,<br />

som fokuserer på brugen af metaltråd i indviklede og kontrastrige<br />

smykker. Resultatet er skrøbelige, sårbare former, som forestiller ygtige<br />

øjeblikke og søger at nde en balance mellem det enkle og det kaotiske.<br />

Til trods for at smykkerne ofte har et fælles udgangspunkt og struktur,<br />

Peter de Wit er kendt for sin evne til at skabe variation i klassiske<br />

prydgenstande og derigennem puste et nyt og dynamisk liv i de mere<br />

traditionelle former med markante virkemidler. Hans smykker kan opleves<br />

som små, intime kunstværker med et konstruktivistisk formsprog. Et<br />

Annika Åkerfelt — født i 1971<br />

Ved at pryde sin porcelænskunst med overføringsbilleder åbner Annika<br />

Åkerfelt op for en legende og sjov billedfortælling med præcise linjer og<br />

detaljer. De motiver, hun bruger, skaber også en nostalgisk stemning.<br />

Kunstnerens navn er indgraveret i smykkerne med elegante bogstaver,<br />

orkild Harboe øgersen presents a collection of brooches and pendants<br />

that focuses on the use of metal wire in complex jewellery, rich in<br />

contrasts. e result is fragile, delicate forms that represent ephemeral<br />

moments endeavouring to strike a balance between the simple and the<br />

chaotic. Despite the fact that the pieces often share a common origin<br />

and structure, their individuality and unique stories are accentuate by<br />

In recent years, Josephine Winther has worked with how sound aects<br />

the body and mind. e onomatopoeically entitled collection Ding is<br />

a collection of 45 necklaces with small cowbells attached – each with a<br />

unique form and a unique sound. With these works, people are forced<br />

to engage dierent senses when selecting a particular piece of jewellery.<br />

e dierent sounds in each necklace are created by means of various<br />

Peter de Wit — born 1952<br />

Peter de Wit is known for his ability to create variation in classic ornaments,<br />

thereby giving fresh and new inspiration to the more traditional<br />

forms. His works can be experienced as small, intimate works of art that<br />

have a constructivist mode of expression – a form of expression that also<br />

Annika Åkerfelt — born 1971<br />

By ornamenting her porcelain art with transfer images, Annika Åkerfelt<br />

introduces a playful and fun narrative with precise lines and details. e<br />

motifs she uses also serve to create a sense of nostalgia. e artist’s name<br />

is engraved into the pieces of jewellery with elegant lettering, which<br />
