very short, ca. 5 mm, foot ca. 4 mm; anther cap conic, densely<br />

finely papillate, front margin irregularly dentate, apex obtuse.<br />

Capsule narrowly cylindric, 6–7 × 0.5–0.6 cm, with a stalk ca. 1<br />

cm.<br />

Epiphytic on tree trunks in mountain forests; 800–1200 m. S Yunnan<br />

[Laos, Myanmar, Thailand].<br />

This species was misidentified by S. C. Chen and Z. H. Tsi (Orchids<br />

China, 156. 1998) as Dendrobium moulmeinense (a synonym of<br />

D. devonianum in the present treatment).<br />

Stems ascending or pendulous, cylindric, 30–80 cm, 5–8<br />

mm in diam., unbranched, with many nodes, internodes 3–4.5<br />

cm, pale yellow when dry. Leaves oblong or oblong-lanceolate,<br />

8.5–11 × 1.7–3 cm, leathery, base contracted and dilated into<br />

EPIDENDROIDEAE<br />

sheaths, apex acuminate or acute; leaf sheath tightly embracing<br />

stem, papery, sheath mouth often open when dry. Inflorescence<br />

on middle part of old leafy or leafless stems, 1- or 2-flowered;<br />

peduncle nearly perpendicular to stem, 1.5–2.5 cm; basal<br />

sheaths 3 or 4, tubular, 2–3 mm, membranous; floral bracts<br />

ovate-triangular, 6–9 mm, papery, apex obtuse. Pedicel and<br />

ovary ca. 2 cm. Flowers fragrant, thinly textured, golden yellow.<br />

Dorsal sepal ovate-oblong, 23–30 × 10–12(or more) mm,<br />

7-veined, with many transverse veins, apex obtuse; lateral sepals<br />

ovate-lanceolate, 23–30 × 10–12(or more) mm, apex acuminate;<br />

mentum broadly conic, ca. 5 mm, apex rounded. Petals<br />

slightly obliquely broadly ovate, slightly shorter than sepal, but<br />

relatively wide, 7-veined, with many secondary veins, base<br />

shortly clawed, apex acute; lip suborbicular, 2–3 cm, base with<br />

a claw ca. 3 mm, both sides embracing column, margin irregularly<br />

denticulate; disk concave, densely finely papillate. Column<br />

ca. 3 mm; anther cap conic, ca. 2 mm, densely finely<br />

papillate, front margin ± irregularly serrate.<br />

Epiphytic on tree trunks in mountain forests, lithophytic on damp<br />

rocks in mountain valleys; 600–1700 m. C and N Guangxi, SW Guizhou,<br />

S Hunan, S Yunnan [Thailand, N Vietnam].<br />

H. P. Wood (Dendrobiums, 640. 2006) tentatively placed Dendrobium<br />

henryi in D. sect. Holochrysa.<br />

in 2 rows, usually short, stiffly textured, base cordate, clasping, and decurrent into sheaths. Inflorescences borne at each node on<br />

recent and older leafy stems, 1- to several flowered. Flowers solitary, leaf opposed, resupinate or not resupinate, usually white, medium-sized,<br />

shortly pedicellate. Sepals and petals sometimes reflexed; mentum straight, narrowly saccate, its elements fused distally<br />

into a spur.<br />

About 30 species: Himalayas to Oceania, most in Indonesia; one species in China.<br />

Stems erect or ascending, cylindric, ca. 50 cm, ca. 5 mm in<br />

diam., uniformly thick, with longitudinal ribs, unbranched, with<br />

many nodes, internodes ca. 2 cm, enclosed in leaf sheaths.<br />

Leaves alternate and dense along whole stem, elliptic, 4–5 ×<br />

1.5–1.9(or more) cm, base cordate, clasping and decurrent into<br />

sheaths tightly embracing stem, apex obtuse and unequally 2lobed.<br />

Inflorescences many, (apparently) leaf-opposed, 1-flowered;<br />

floral bracts small. Pedicel and ovary bent downward, ca.<br />

2 cm, slender. Flowers scented, white, disk yellow above mid-<br />

dle, keels brownish purple. Dorsal sepal reflexed, ovate-oblong,<br />

ca. 8 × 5 mm, apex acute; lateral sepals reflexed, oblong-lanceolate,<br />

ca. 8 × 5 mm, apex acute; mentum angulate, ca. 7 mm.<br />

Petals recurved, narrowly lanceolate, ca. 7 × 4 mm, apex acute;<br />

lip larger than sepals, fleshy, 3-lobed, ± decurved and folded<br />

along axis; lateral lobes deltoid, small, ca. 2 mm, acute; midlobe<br />

nearly transversely oblong or rounded, somewhat large, ca.<br />

10 × 15 mm, subtruncate and broadly emarginate, central part<br />

of disk with 3 keeled ridges.<br />

Epiphytic on tree trunks in broad-leaved mountain forests; ca.<br />

1100 m. SE Yunnan (Menghai, Mengla) [Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar,<br />

Thailand, Vietnam].<br />

This species was misidentified by Z. H. Tsi (Acta Phytotax. Sin.<br />

18: 434. 1980) as Dendrobium revolutum Lindley.<br />

Inflorescences lateral, short, often distal, pendulous, borne on bare penultimate leads, few flowered, flowers sometimes clustered;<br />

peduncle and rachis thin and rigid. Flowers small, pink, white, or brownish. Mentum saccate, with an expanded cavity. Lip concave,<br />

cymbiform, entire, interior often shortly hairy.
