--The most Outstanding and inspirational
scene in the play was
the Crucifixion. After the death
of the Christ a mass hush came
over the audience as Mrs. Gene
Overton, playing the part of
Mary, the Mother, knelt before
her crucified son and sang "Were
You There When They Crucified
My Lord?" The quietness of
those moments brought a sudden
stillness in the auditorium that
covered, the crowd with a religious
tension that was within itself
an Inspiration to the soul.
Her beautiful voice rang, through
the" auditorium and not another
sound was made. It touched the
literally "felt" as if th'ey were
present at the actual crucifixion.
'"'Too,' Rex Felkcr's portrayal of
the Christ, was described by the
spectators as ''nothing less 'than
superb" as the local Chamber of
vGommerce manager "lived" the
part so that its drama held the
complete attention oi the audi
once throunhout the play.
The presentation was
to the Ministerial Alliance of
Haskell and some of its members
have described it as "the best
Easter Service we have ever
had."
Already there has been talk of
and top economy o'n every job, Dodge Duilds eight
great truck engines. There's one that s
to fit your kind of work.
"In fact, you get a truck that's in
Tests prev power with economy. To save powerful
Dodge truck engines employ ratios as high
as 7.0 to 1. And, on high-tonna- models, a twin carbure-tio- n
and exhaust system is used.
Records show low upkeep. For dependability and low
repair costs, rugged Dodge engines have
A growing telephone system can't take a
'
holiday.
.
When a telephone man visits your home to
install a telephone, the work you witness
may take only twenty minutes or so. But,
the work you didn't see the unseen groundwork
which made that installation possible
could easily have required many months
to complete.
You carl be sure, each day of the year, that
plans for your community's future telephone
service are in the making. The gears of telephone
progress are turning. The groundwork
never stops.
For State Representative of 83rd
John Klmbrough of this city
hns nnnoimccd his candidacy for
Stnto Representative of the 83rd
legislative district In the coming
Democratic primal y.
His announcement to the voters
in the 83rd district follows:
After serious consideration of
requests from many friends
throughout Haskell, Knox,
Throckmorton and Baylor Counties.
I have derided to flic as a
csntlidate for the office of State
Representative from the 83rd
District. In so doing I am entering
an entirely new field In
which It Is my sincere purpose to
I serve the good people of this area
in which I was bom and reared.
My father was n country doctor
In this area for more than
forty years, and one brother Is at
present practicing medicine here.
I have lived within the district
all of my life and deeply cherish
the friendships and associations
extended me by its citizenship.
My only absence from the district
was while away attending
school, a period of professional
football, and the four and one-ha- lf
years I served in the Armed
Forces during World War II. My
wife and two children are proud
to be residents of this district In
which it has been our good fortune
to make our living from
business, farming, and ranching
activities. My purpose In offering
myself for this post stems from
the hope that I might In some
measure repay the fine people of
this district for the many kindnesses
bestowed upon me.
It is my profound belief that our
law-maki- ng bodies today are in
greater needthan ever before of
'men with practical business ex
perience In order that sound business
practices can be applied to
all functions of government.
"'Since the Texas Legislature has
the power to tax and to regulate,
it Js my conviction that it is
proper for its membership to
contain men who have experienced
such taxation and regulation.
I have no selfish interest to
serve, nor do I seek any form of
personal gain, but have the sole
motive of representing all of the
people living within the four
counties of this district.
If the people of this district
arc kind enough to select me as
their Representative In the Important
and critical forthcoming
53rd Session, It will be my purpose
to work vigorously for the
elimination of waste, duplication
extravagance and needless regulation.
While I would work for
all measures vitally affecting the
welfare of all business and commercial
economy of our district,
I would particularly seek the
continuation and expansion of
the important programs which
will enhance the rural economy
of our area, such as farm-to-mar- ket
roads, rural telephones
and soil and water conservation
practices. Certainly J would work
for the repeal of the present unreasonable
its replacement a statute setting
work for any measure proposed
you pay back gradually, with payments geared
