Why They 'Adopted' Ocean City
Talking to Ocean City's new permanent residents
Who attended the "Welcome Night" affair at the hiRh
. school, Friday night, paid revealing dividend)).
AH said that their decision to reside here the year
around resulted from summer vacations they had xpent
in the resort. Some had been coming here IS summers,
Otheri a» m*ny as 45, They all seemed proud of that
It proved a point: That Ocean City'.* strength lief
in providing a clean, wholesome environment, ami
wholesome recreation for its summer KUCMW, It adds up
to character and good taste. It's the foundation upon
which the resort ia buildinp an impressive permanent
population of home owners,
"Welcome Night" was a distinctive SUCCUHS, It re.
fleets credit upon the Chamber of Com me rue. Certainly
it should become at least an annual event.
All we can hope is that the Smith-SHndmaii debates
stick to pergonalitieH and stay tlear of such vital issues
as cigarette prices or real estate.
Retort's Churches Art Thriving
Rev. Frank F, Adlor ui-ffed in a talk to the resort's
hew residents at the "Welcome Night" affair, Friday,
that they support the churches, and thereby help to
preserve the characteristic* thiit attracted them to
Ocean City,
That the newcomers are doing just that is indicated
by the rapid growth all of the churches are experi-
encintf
Only a couple of years ago, for instance. Pastor
Adl«r's own church, St. John's Lutheran, was forced to
double its capacity, and now the added space is proving
Inadequate,'
The Catholics are now constructing their second
large church, at 2nd st. and Atlantic av.
The Preshyteriftiis have acquired property, looking
to future expansion.
Th« Episcopnlians reri'iitly constructed a tu-w
parish house.
The Christian Scientists have convened a Inrmtf
bank building to a church.
The Methodists have cluborute plans for future
expansion.
And the Tabernacle will have twn identical morn-
ing services evfry Sunday this summer.
Thus, it is appttrt lit that the resort's lesitlt'iits, old
and new, are HUpporling the churches ^Kafeguaids to
the resort's high iil
