The phone company bought
the building to llll for about

"We have • beautiful
boulevard and you drive in

system, but will use it! station
in Upper Township Instead of
building one here. Now,
they're asking $425,000 for the
buildings and officials think
that's just • bit too much
"It'a way out of line,"
VanArtsdalen said.

such as government-owned
buildings, utility owned
buildings or banks. City officials

corner of JFK Boulevard,"
VanArtsdalen said.
He is also upset because the
I phone company promised a
1 switching station, but the
city's antiquated system
remains. The city sold the
building In good faith, he said,
hut the phone company hasn't
wme through.
"To me, ttat'i a breach of.
contract with the city even
though there was no formal
contract," he said.

they can't tie it Into their
phone system, They-wlll also
be left out when the county
computerizes all of Its
operations and Sea Isle won't
be able to hook up with it, he
said.
If the city doesn't get some
kind of satisfaction from the
phone company soon,
VanArtsdalen said there ii a
possibility toy may hive to
wm the utility for relief.
New Jersey Bell officials
said the switch over of the
dty'i system is scheduled for
Dec. 2, 1986, and it wUl be
remotely handled from the
Palermo switching office. The
utility doesn't expect to cause
hassles for the city like lor

receive bids. The land sale
would also have to be approved
by the State Board of
Public Utilities, Green said,
which would make sure the
phone company got the best
.price for the property.
The utility, however,
wouldn't need BPU approval
to sell It to a govemment
entity like the city, he said.
Green declined to comment
on the condemnation
proceedings.
"Obviously they're frie to
do that," he said.
He said the phone company
has received several inquiries
about the property, but he
doesn't know how serious they
are,
"It appears we have some
serious Interest In the
property, but we never Imow
until we advertise and accept
bids," he said,
