Safety Handbook and have led to significant<br />

improvements in electrical safety performance across<br />

the DOE complex.<br />

Several <strong>Neutron</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> staff were recognized as<br />

outstanding mentors at ORNL and within the community—from<br />

NSSD: Al Ekkebus, Jamie Fernandez-<br />

Baca, Christina Hoffmann, Chrissi Schnell, and<br />

Lakeisha Walker; from RAD: Willem Blokland and<br />

Jeff Holmes.<br />

Eighteen staff contributed to the engineering design<br />

project, “<strong>Spallation</strong> <strong>Neutron</strong> Source Target<br />

Hot Cell,” which received a <strong>2008</strong> Grand Award<br />

from the American Council of Engineering Companies<br />

<strong>Annual</strong> Engineering Excellence Awards<br />

program. The team was honored for its design<br />

of the hot cell facility, which protects staff and<br />

users while allowing maintenance of target and<br />

experimental equipment.<br />
