EDUCATION AND OUTREACH <strong>2008</strong> ANNUAL REPORT<br />
Education and Outreach<br />
A top priority for the <strong>Neutron</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> organization<br />
is to educate scientists, students, and the general<br />
public about both the advances from past neutron<br />
scattering research and the limitless possibilities for<br />
the future. We hope to attract members of the science<br />
and engineering community to learn more about<br />
the capabilities of neutron scattering in general and<br />
about the available resources at HFIR and SNS in<br />
particular.<br />
To achieve these goals, our staff actively participate<br />
in the scientific community by taking part in or<br />
hosting conferences and workshops, by presenting<br />
educational information at local community meetings<br />
and events, and through many other activities. During<br />
the past year, our main educational and outreach<br />
activities included organizing (in conjunction with<br />
Argonne National Laboratory) the first National<br />
School on <strong>Neutron</strong> and X-Ray Scattering at SNS<br />
and HFIR, funding 5 postdoctoral fellowships, hosting<br />
42 interns, and hosting or supporting 10 workshops.<br />
