Chapter ñ 8 Final Report: Ambur Municipality 8.4.6 Issues in Solid Waste Management Sector The land fill is only an open site where there is no systematic dumping or Scientific method of waste disposal. Compost Yard ñ Bethalegam( Not operating) There has no scope for transfer station due to non ñ availability of open land. Lack of Safety suits - Injurious to the health of the sanitation workers and reduces the productivity of the manpower. Un-authorised solid wastes are dumped in the open storm water drain and palar river. 8.4.7 Proposal At present, municipality has temporary solutions or proposals like buying vehicles, extend the compost yard area. For horizon year, the needs of the solid waste management proposal are discuss in the Chapter10. 8.5 STREET LIGHTING 8.5.1 Status of Street Lighting The Municipality is expected to provide lighting facilities in all the streets and other public places like parks, public tanks, markets, bus stands, etc., situated within the Municipal area. To provide this facility the Municipality has got a lighting account ear - marked for provision and maintenance of street lights. There are a total of 2,090 lights that light up the town. Out of which , there are 1,785 Tube Lights of 40 W, 50 Sodium Vapour Lamps of 70 Watts, 175 Sodium Vapour Lamps of 150 Watts and 80 Sodium Vapour Lamps of 250 Watts. - 65 - Voyants Solutions Private Limited
