6.2.2 Slum Improvement Programmes
Currently only Integrated Housing and Slum Development Program (IHSDP) is in
operation for slum improvement in Ambur town. This programme is taken up by
Ambur Municipality and is now under operation.
6.3 ISSUES
Due to improper monitoring and implementation of development regulation more than
one-third of the town population lives in slums (15.15% of the total population lives in
slums)
Lack of access to services in wards where dominance of slum prevails and on the land
developed for housing by private developers
Lack of basic services leads to open defecation and garbage disposal within the municipal
limits
Dominance of sub-standard urban basic services
Increasing informal settlements on public lands by low income in-migrants due to
unaffordable land supply within municipal limits
Increasing inadequate serviced land for housing within municipal limits
Lack of awareness regarding health and hygiene
Unregulated physical development
6.4 PROPOSAL
Proposal has been prepared for ISHDP scheme at an outlay of Rs.2,272.00 Lakhs for
improvement and up-gradation of shelter as well as other amentias in 11 slum areas. The
nature of work is to be taken under this scheme as follows.
