The Chennai- Bengaluru National Highway passes through the town linking it with the surrounding urban centers. The Broad Gauge Railway line passes parallel to the Chennai- Bengaluru NH in the town. The major road arterials in the town are Chennai ñ Bengaluru NH and Thuthipet road. The Byepass road connects with the NH in the south. The physical features determining the growth direction of the town are the Palar River in the west, and the agricultural lands in the south west. The growth of the town is along the Chennai ñ Bengaluru National Highway towards south. The commercial activities are developed mainly along the major roads and sporadically distributed in the residential areas. The land under agriculture accounted for 88 % & 9% water bodies. Within the developed land, the residential area constituted 14% commercial area accounted for 2.5 %, water bodies 9%, and Public & semi-public accounts for about 2% .
