3.2 PHYSICAL PLANNING
3.2.1 Physical Growth Trend
As the town is situated on the banks of Palar River, the river forms the natural
boundary to the town in west, northwest and southwest directions. The Chennai-
Bengaluru National Highway passes through the town linking it with the surrounding
urban centers. The Broad Gauge Railway line passes parallel to the Chennai-
Bengaluru NH in the town. The major road arterials in the town are Chennai ñ
Bengaluru NH and Thuthipet road. The Byepass road connects with the NH in the
south.
The physical features determining the growth direction of the town are the Palar
River in the west, and the agricultural lands in the south west.
The growth of the town is along the Chennai ñ Bengaluru National Highway towards
south. The commercial activities are developed mainly along the major roads and
sporadically distributed in the residential areas. New residential, commercial and
industrial establishments are developing in the East and Western side of the town.
