Right Brother Accepts Sentence
Pleads to Charges Initially Heaped on wrong Brother
Martin
A man who told police
officers he was not who he
was but identified himself
as his brother and escaped
an initial visit to court a
few weeks ago showed up
on Thursday and pleaded
to six counts, including
criminal impersonation
and driving under the influence
(DUI)
In Monroe County
General Sessions Court,
Judge Reed Dixon sentenced
Michael Todd
Martin to six months probation
for the impersonation
plea and to 11
months, 29 days for pleading
to DUI. Martin also
accepted the usual DUI
penalty for a first offense
and will spent 48 hours behind
bars and pay a $365
fine.
An impeding traffic violation
was dismissed, and
for driving without insurance,
Dixon ordered Martin
to pay a $10 fine. For
driving on, and pleading
to, third offense driving on
suspended license, Martin
took another 11/29 suspended
sentence and a
fine of $115.
Madisonville Police Patrol
Sergeant Adam Russell
charged Martin with
the offenses on December
1, when he stopped Martin
for driving too slowly in
the hammer lane of Highway
411 and found him intoxicated.
However,
Martin gave Russell his
brother’s name and
skipped out on the pending
court date.
The brother brought
the name change before
the court and Martin was
duly charged under his
correct name on December
14.
The brother, by the
way, has no police record.
Hamm
(Continued from pg 1)
possession of unlawful
drug paraphernalia was
James Eric Hamm, 36, of
Hiwassee Road, Madisonville.
Miller said he watched
Hamm’s GMC run
through a stop sign at
Depot Street and Highway
411 around 12:15 a.m.
He stopped the SUV and
found Hamm behind the
wheel and learned through
E-911 dispatchers that
Hamm’s driver’s license
was suspended.
Ham said he had nothing
illegal in the vehicle
and provided Miller with
consent to search it.
Miller found a small baggie
beside the drivers seat
and in the bag was a white
powder.
Miller said Hamm then
told him he had a meth lab
in the back of the GMC.
Finding it, Miller located
chemical mixes used to
make methamphetamine,
including a gas bottle, coffee
filters, lithium batteries,
drain cleaner, cold
packs, lighter fluid, and
muriatic acid.
Also with the chemicals
were empty baggies, a syringe,
a spoon, a glass dipper,
and scales.
Packett’s driver’s license
revoked for a previous
DUI. Packett’s speech
was slurred, he was unsteady,
and his eyes were
bloodshot.
Packett performed sobriety
