Monroe County Sheriff’s
Deputy Jason Russell
said he was dispatched to
Federal Trail on December
19 to investigate a theft of
an air conditioning unit.
The owner said he found
the unit gone after last seeing
it days earlier, valuing it
at $3,500.
Sheriff’s Deputy
Franklin Steele said he arrived
at a home on Old
Highway 68 on December
19, learning a Loudon man
had allegedly taken a
Dodge truck from a family
without permission and
without paying for it. The
owner said the 1995 Ram
model was valued at $800.
Sweetwater Police Patrol
Officer Daniel Johnson
said he met with a
storage locker tenant on
December 19, taking a report
of a break-in to the
unit and the loss of medicine,
towels, clothing, mop
and mop pail, and jars and
bottles.
Two electrical power
thefts occurred at the
same time: Sheriff’s
Deputy James Fischer said
he and Deputy Eddie
Manning investigated a
meter on Highway 411
that showed evidence of
tampering and the loss of
$500 worth of electricity;
Fischer investigated a second
meter on Ogle Road,
finding a seal broken and
another $500 worth of al-

But that wasn’t all for
Fischer as he remained active,
heading to Harrison
Road, where he said he
checked out a report of a
stolen compressor valued
at $500.
At the same time, Sheriff’s
Deputy Marla Richeson
said she met with a
Bingham Road resident
who alleged a recent theft
of a $100 chainsaw, a second
$100 chainsaw, a $20
walkie-talkie, a $15 flashlight
charger, a $150 drill
set, $6 in cash, and $10 in
loose change.
Sheriff’s Deputy Brady
Bowers said he responded
to a Vinegar Ridge Road
home on December 17 to
address a reported breakin
near Highway 411 that
resulted in the disappearance
of a $856 flat-screen
television, a $50 television,
a $300 X-Box, and a $35
DVD player.
Johnson was back on
December 18, saying he investigated
an outbuilding
burglary on Highway 11,
where items worth $350
were stolen, including a
tiller, a bucket of tools, a
tool bag with tools in it,
garden tools, and a crosscut
saw.

investigated a neighbor’s

Acuff said he went to
Smoky Branch Road on
December 18, looking into
a reported theft of a patriotic
banner worth $150.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Ray
Haynes said he was dispatched
on the same day
to County Farm Road
where a property owner
reported the theft of jewelry,
including rings,
bracelets, and necklaces,
and earrings, all of un-
known value.
Sweetwater Police Patrol
Officer Michael Pippin
said he responded to
Eastwood Drive to investigate
a report concerning
two stolen firearms, a
$1,000 H&R .410 shotgun
and a $1,000 level-action
16-gauge shotgun, plus a
missing Isuzu vehicle.
Steele was back on December
19, filing a report
that he said detailed copper
wiring worth $3,000
taken from a home on
December 31, 2012
Sweetwater-Vonore Road.
Russell, too, was back,
traveling to Hiwassee College
where a $4,500 van
was reported as stolen.
Russell said inside the van
were an $800 rifle with
scope and two jackets.
Fischer sad on December
20 he investigated a reported
credit card account
theft that resulted in the
loss of an alleged $2,680
from the bank account affiliated
with the card.
Police Chase Down Fleeing Driver
Three Charges Plus Hitting a Patrol Car
A Madisonville driver
went to jail early Friday
after leading police officers
and a sheriff’s deputy
on a chase around town.
Charged by Madisonville
Police Patrol Officer
Cody Yates with felony
fleeing, aggravated assault,
reckless endangerment,
and driving without insurance
was Philip Lawrence
Goca, 20, of Greenwood
Circle.
Yates said he spotted
Goca’s Ford Probe around
1:30 a.m. as it passed the
Madisonville First Baptist
Church on Walnut Street
traveling at a high rate of
speed. It crossed College
Street, shut down its
lights, and headed for
Warren Street, with Yates
giving chase.
The car turned onto
Highway 68 and immediately
turned onto Community
Lane. Yates said
he lost the car on Loop
Road but found it and
pursued it back onto
Community Drive and on
to Highway 68.
Other officers entered
the chase, Yates said, and
at one point Goca locked
his brakes in an attempt to
wreck his chasers. He
then struck a Monroe
County Sheriff’s cruiser
driven by Deputy Brady
Bowers, sending the Ford
and the cruiser unit into a
ditch.
Both Goca and Bowers
were not injured, Yates
said, but the vehicle was
damaged.
Bennett

According to detectives,
Bennett took a vehicle
from a man on
October 26. Inside the vehicle
were a laptop computer,
a cell phone, several
prescription pills, and
$300 cash.
Bennett was in the vehicle
when she was arrested.
Detectives said the
cell phone was found inside
the vehicle.
