Madisonville, formerly of
Tavares, Florida, passed away
10:15 P.M. Friday, December
28, 2012 at East Tennessee
Health Care. She and her husband
pastored Harvest Time
Baptist Church, Ocoee, Florida
and she also traveled in a gospel
quartet. Preceded in death by
husband Charles Wayne Burdick,
parents Wallace and Doris
Wiley, sister June Anez and
brother David Wiley. Survivors-
Brother & sisters-in-law: Jerry
Allen and Rita Wiley, Panama
City, FL, Linda Wiley, Florida; 4
nieces and 2 nephews Graveside

HITSON, JOHN FRANKLIN,
age 64, of 354 Mahala Road,
Sweetwater, passed away Saturday
morning December 29,
2012 at home. John was a 1968
graduate of Sweetwater High
School. He served in the United
States Air Force from 1969-
1973. John served in law enforcement
for over 28 years
holding positions such as police
officer, detective and police chief
serving Monroe and Loudon
Counties. John also served as
Director on the 9th Judicial Drug
Task Force and worked for Sanford
and Son Bail Bonds. He
was a lifelong member of V.F.W.
Post 5156. He was a member of
Union McMinn Baptist Church.
He currently served as a board
member for Westview Cemetery
in Sweetwater. John coached
little league softball, baseball,
football and youth boxing for
Sweetwater and Madisonville.
He was an avid golfer, bowler
and loved to dance. John is survived
by daughters and sons-inlaw,
Courtney and Craig Self of
Madisonville; Cody and Tony
Hayes of Linden, Virginia; grandchildren,
Cade and Cooper Self,
Josie and Tino Hayes, Harley
Allen and John Brady Anderson;
sisters, Jesse Miller and Betty
McCulloch of Sweetwater, Kay
Steele of Madisonville, brothers,
Sam Hitson of Sweetwater, Jack
Hitson of Brentwood; special
nieces, Jennifer and Madison
Robinson and Lisa and Savannah
McCulloch of Sweetwater,
numerous other nieces,
nephews, friends and family who
loved John dearly; special friend
of many years, Jimmy Lee Bellamy.

Sonya Lynn won her
case against the Board of
Education and Schools
Director Mike Lowry for
the system’s failure to permit
the board to perform
its duties. The case, along
with a similar lawsuit that
former teacher Penny
Parker won in late 2011,
would be overturned by
December 31, 2012
Chancellor Jerry Bryant
who initially awarded the
two women a chancery
court victory.
February arrived with
the arrest of Chuck Hunt,
a captain with the previous
sheriff’s administration,
and a second man,
Norman Nichols, who
were charged with vote
buying in last year’s Tellico
Plains mayoral election.
The Madisonville Police
Department promoted
Patrol Officer Daniel
Dockery to captain detective,
John Mullinax became
Tellico Plains High
School’s football coach,
and the Rural Vale Lady
Panthers brought home a
state championship in basketball.
