Police in New Delhi
charged six suspects accused
of raping a woman
in India with murder on
Saturday after the woman
died of injuries sustained
in the attack on December
16. The country’s residents
have called for the death
penalty for the suspects,
five men between 20 and
40 and a juvenile.
A Russian jetliner careened
off a runway in
Moscow on Saturday, splitting
into pieces and killing
four of the 12 crewmembers
on board. The
Tupolev 204 jet, carrying
no passengers, rammed
into a highway barrier and
left smoking chunks of
fuselage on the icy tarmac.
In Syria, Saturday was
possibly the bloodiest day
since the country’s unrest
began 21 months ago, opposition
forces with the
Local Coordination Committees
reported, listing at
least 392 persons as killed,
including 201 persons who
were executed by government
troops in Deir Balbah,
outside the city of
Homs. Russian officials

both sides to meet for negotiations.
Meanwhile, Russia’s
foreign minister on Saturday
said Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad had no intention
of stepping down
and it would be an impossibility
of convincing him
otherwise. Lakhdar
Brahimi said the opposition
forces in the country
risked sacrificing more
lives if they continued to
insist on Assad leaving office
as a precondition for
holding talks.
Mexican authorities announced
on Saturday the
discovery of a sophisticated
smuggling tunnel
equipped with electricity
and ventilation near the
Nogales port of entry into
Arizona. Officers located
the tunnel following a tip
on Thursday, finding it 120
yards long and believed to
be designed for transporting
illegal drugs.

they later found was the
man had removed some of
the restroom panels and
gained entrance into the
Air Antilles baggage area,
