(Continued from pg 1)
The count was to go
from midnight to midnight.
As Carrie Ingram of
CHOTA Community
Health Services said, the
information gathered
would go to Barbara Raper
of Douglas Cherokee
Housing Authority and
then to the coalition.
Homeless Management of
Monroe County would
use information from the
count for its 10-year plan
just approved by the
county commission, as Ingram
mentioned.
Raper herself could be
seen shortly before 11 a.m.
at the First United
Methodist Church in
Madisonville, where a
soup kitchen was being set
up. The soup kitchens
Church in Madisonville,
Emma Tate, Mary Alice
Huff, Susan Miley, Barbara
Penland, and Laurie Mc-
Neece were among those
helping out. As McNeece
said, the food being served
included “all kinds” of
soup, including taco,
turkey noodle, and
chicken noodle. Ham
sandwiches, beans, crackers,
and dessert were also
served.
“We’re on the ball,” said
Raper, who estimated 12
to 15 doing the counting in
the county. Cheryl
Leach was watching
things in Sweetwater, she
said, while Bethany
church in Madisonville,
Boyd McClure, Ethel
“goodie bags” to be given
to the homeless subjects.
At First United
Methodist Church in
Sweetwater, Rhonda Ruebush
was helping to put
the soup kitchen together.
Theresa Walker was ready
to serve. And Connie
Blomstrom and Regina
Lawson of Sweetwater
Area Ministries had at
least two homeless individuals
to interview and
assist.
Besides CHOTA and
Sweetwater Area Ministries,
the Branches of
Monroe County and Douglas
Cherokee had information
tables set up at the
soup kitchens.
Persons doing the interviewing
were instructed
not to identify the homeless
Scott, volunteer for the 2013 Point-In-Time Homeless
Count as part of their Psychology Service Learning
Project.
for future development of
housing and services.
The Hiwassee College
students became aware of
the increasing homeless
population in Monroe
County and wished to volunteer
their efforts in
order to do something
about it. The students
participate in community
service projects for all
their psychology classes so
when the opportunity
arose to run the Point-In-
Time phone bank for the
Douglas-Cherokee Economic
Authority in Monroe
County, the students
enthusiastically responded.
Pat Hinton, Associate
Professor of Psychology at
Hiwassee College, stated,
“I am extremely proud of
my psychology students.
They all stepped up to volunteer
for the 12-hour duration
of the phone bank.
There were 13 students in
total taking shifts
throughout the day. Two
students were there at
6:50 a.m. in order to prepare
and other students
stayed until 7:30 p.m. to
finish. It was a long day
but well worth it!”

Cooperative needs to be
properly notified when a
customer or member has
passed away, said the coop
board of directors’ during
the Thursday meeting.
At the meeting held at
the FLEC building in
Vonore, general manager
Jarrod Brackett said the
co-op had $12,456.44 in
bad debts for December
2012, which was not the
highest ever but still substantial.
That debt came
from 57 different accounts
and a lot of those were
renters, Brackett also said.
“We’re still pursuing these
debts,” he stated.
The co-op has had a
problem with who should
take over the paying of
bills to the co-op when a
customer or member has
passed away, Brackett said.
“We need documentation
they are legal heirs” when
a person is assuming the
paying of bills for someone
who has passed on, he
added. The co-op is ready
to work with customers
any way it can, he added.
FLEC had 270 new
members in December,
At Thursday's FLEC meeting, from left, directors
Ralph Hall, Doug McJunkin, and Vernon Davis.
Brackett reported, for a
present total of 31,236,
which is still a decrease of
51 over the month before.
“That does concern us,”
Brackett stated. He said
that more people moving
in to reside with others
could be a factor in the declining
number.
Sales were up in December
2012, Brackett reported,
although that
could not be reflected immediately
in the financial
report. The reason for
that, he said, was the timing
of the billing. And as
chairman D.C. Barefield
said after the meeting, “we
pay TVA for power and
then we’re paid by the customer,”
which has not
happened yet.
People were using more
power in December,
Brackett said at the meeting,
and December had
“three real clear cold pockets.”
FLEC technically has
$5,123,000 in construction
projects going on right
now, Brackett said, and
most of that involves substations
which are completed
or near completion.
Substations at Niles Ferry
and Wellsville are completed
while one at Rarity
Point should be complete
around May, Brackett said.
FLEC has $1.5 million in
construction earmarked
for 2013, Barefield stated.
“All in all, I think we’re
heading in the right direction,”
Barefield also said.
“Our debt is coming
down (and) we’re doing
better than a lot of other
cooperatives.”
FLEC showed a 99.6
percent reliability rate for
2012, Brackett said at the
meeting, “and that’s good,”
demonstrating how
quickly the co-op restores
power. There had been a
couple of recent instances
where the co-op was notified
of power outages and
was able to restore power
before the member notified
the co-op.
A big reason that could
be done, he said, was the
new advanced metering
system recently installed.
Thanks to it, Brackett
added, the co-op now has
3,056 meters to read instead
of nearly 8,000 as it
had before.
“I appreciate you all
FAA grounded all the 787s
in the country and authorities
in Europe, Chile,
Poland, Ethiopia, and
India quickly followed
suit. A dog who served nine
tours of duty in
Afghanistan and who was
promoted to the rank of
sergeant before he was retired
from the Army has
been denied burial in a national
ceremony, where
the canine’s handler was
interred, according to Detroit
television personnel
on Friday and a mother
who said the dog had
served in defense of the
country alongside her son.
“Mina,” a bomb-finding
canine, was recently euthanized
after serving three
tours with Michigan native
Army Sergeant Corey
McCourt.
NBC News said on Friday
an Army wife who was
denied membership last
year at a Fort Bragg
spouses club because she
was married to a female
army officer had been
named Fort Bragg’s 2013
“Spouse of the Year.” The
vote came from an online
election that included
nominees from all military
branches, handing the
honor to Ashley Broadway
in a runaway vote that
beat all the others “by a
country mile.”
In Chicago, five persons
died from shootings
on Saturday, a day of
bloodshed in the Windy
City that began in early afternoon
when a gunman
killed one man and
wounded another in a
parked car. Two men later
died from bullet wounds
near a South Side eatery,
and later in the afternoon
a man in his 30s and a
teenager were shot to
death. Police said there
had been no arrests.
And (it takes guts to
print this story), Mazda
announced on Friday that
it would be powering its
new Mazda-6 race car in
the weekend Rolex 24 endurance
race in Daytona
with fuel made from
chicken innards, beef tallow,
and pork lard. The
custom-made fuel was described
as “so clean” the
car would not require filters
like other diesel-powered
autos need, as the
special bio-fuel, or “meatpacking
residue,” or “organic
glop,” was much
more efficient than other
traditional fuel. (First, a
shortage of chicken wings
an assault on their bay
window.)
Moore
(Continued from pg 1)
Charged by Monroe
County Sheriff’s Deputy
CJ Williams with possession
of Schedule II oxycontin,
with possession of
Schedule II oxycodone,
with possession of Schedule
IV alprazolam, and
with possession of unlawful
drug paraphernalia was
Brandy Kay Moore, 36, of
Liberality Road.
Williams said he spotted
two vehicles parked
beside Mount Harmony
Baptist Church on Mount
Harmony Road around
12:30 a.m. As he entered
the church’s parking lot,
he watched a female run
from the front of one vehicle
to its rear.
Speaking to the occupants
of both vehicles separately,
Williams said he
heard different stories,
and because the location
was in an area of “high
drug activity,” he asked for
and received consent to
search the vehicles and the
occupants.
In Moore’s vehicle, he
discovered a pill crusher
and a snorting straw, both
with a white powder
residue. Williams said a
search of Moore’s purse
turned up a prescription
bottle for buspirone, but
inside the bottle were two
oxycontin 15-mg pills and
12 alprazolam .25-mg pills.
In a small pouch in the
purse, there were six oxycodone
hydrochloride 15mg
pills wrapped in a
plastic wrapper, Williams
said.
Tallent
(Continued from pg 1)
Charged by Monroe
County Sheriff’s Sergeant
Ray Haynes with two
counts of assault was
Daniel Lee Tallent, 33, of
Niles Ferry Road, Madisonville.
Haynes said he was dispatched
to a home on Old
Niles Ferry Road to investigate
a disturbance on
December 17, finding a female
who said she had
been thrown to the
ground and assaulted by
Tallent. He was angered,
she said, because she had
left him at another person’s
home and returned
to her home.
A male who owned the
home occupied by the female
told Haynes that Tallent
had kicked in a locked
door and shattered a
storm door. Tallent also
struck the man, dropping
him onto a coffee table,
where he hit his head and
went unconscious.
Tallent was gone from
the residence when
Haynes arrived, he said.
Programs Available To Improve Farming
Lazaro Novoa grew up
in a rural community in
Cuba, where his grandfather
owned a small farm
with sheep and goats. He
moved his family to the
Sweetwater area about five
years ago where he purchased
a one hundred
eleven acre farm. Inspired
by his grandfather, it was
Novoa’s desire and that of
his son, Anthony, to expand
the diversity of his
farm to include cattle
along with sheep and
goats.
With only about 20
percent of his land usable,
Novoa and Anthony
began their work in
preparing the land for livestock
grazing. Their
neighbors noticed their
hard work and effort and
it was suggested that perhaps
Novoa should check
with the Natural Resources
Conservation
Service (NRCS) to see if
any of the USDA programs
could assist in his
endeavor to improve productivity
of his land. He
decided to go to the
USDA Service Center located
in Madisonville to
find out more about the
programs his neighbors
had told him about.
“Everything started
there,” says Novoa, “The
need for a productive farm
and the desire to work toward
healthier pastures
To maximize the productivity
of his farm, he
has a portion of his fields
set aside for a vineyard. In
his vineyard he has planted
muscadines from which
he produces wine.
Lazaro and Anthony
foresee a bright future for
their farm. Lazaro stated,
“For the future I would
like to see productive, fertile
soil and be able to harvest
the greatest
percentage possible in hay
for grazing of my livestock.”
He goes on to say,
“When I started five years
ago only twenty percent of
my land was usable. With
the help of my son, we
now have close to seventy
five percent that is usable
for pasture and hay land.
We plan to continue to
work on expanding the
productivity of our farm in
collaboration with the
NRCS.”
When asked if he
would recommend other
farmers or landowners to
the NRCS he responded,
“I would definitely recommend
working with the
NRCS. I am thankful for
all the help I received and
I would encourage other
Renovation - Plant Clovers in Grass Pastures
Jonathan Rhea
Monroe County
Extension Agent
A goal of Monroe
County cattle producers
should be to provide the
nutrients their cattle require
as economically as
possible. Allowing the
cattle to acquire their own
feed through grazing is the
most efficient way to provide
these nutrients. The
majority of cattle in Monroe
County graze tall fescue
or orchardgrass
pastures. While these pastures
provide good quality
forage over a long portion
of the year, they can be
improved. One of the
best and easiest ways to
improvement is to add
legumes such as red or
white clover and annual
lespedeza to these pastures.
Benefits of clovers
Adding clovers to pastures
or hay fields can produce
benefits in four ways:
(1) Increased yield
(2) Improved animal performance
(3) Nitrogen fixation
(4) More summer production
1.Increased yield
Research in Tennessee
has shown that tall fescue
overseeded with white
clover, or a combination of
white clover, red clover
and annual lespedeza, will
produce more forage than
a pure tall fescue pasture
fertilized with 60 pounds
of nitrogen per acre.
2. Improved animal
performance
Research has shown
that clovers improve animal
gains and conception
rates. High quality feed is
important for a calf to gain
well and for a cow to rebreed
after calving.
Clovers are more digestible
and contain more
nutrients than grasses.
Their presence in a pasture
improves the palatability
of the forage, which
will increase the amount
and quality of the forage
the animal consumes. Research
has also shown that
including clovers in an endophyte
- infected tall fescue
pasture helps decrease
fescue toxicosis. The result
is an increase in weaning
weights, milk
production and conception
rates.
3. Nitrogen fixation
Another characteristic
that makes legumes a desirable
component of a
pasture is their ability to
provide nitrogen. Rhizobium
is a group of bacteria
which enter the roots of
legumes and form nodules,
or knots. The bacteria inside
the nodules take nitrogen
from the
atmosphere and put it into
a form that the plant can
use. Not only is the nitrogen
available to the
legume, but the surrounding
grass plants can use a
portion of this nitrogen.
The ability of legumes to
“fix” nitrogen is actually
the result of this mutualistic
relationship (beneficial
to both) between the
legume and the bacteria.
The bacteria get energy
from the legume, while
the legume gets nitrogen
from the bacteria.
The amount of nitrogen
fixed can differ according
to the legume
used. The amount can
range from approximately
50 pounds of nitrogen per
acre each year for annual
legumes such as crimson
clover and annual lespedeza,
to more than 150
pounds per acre each year
for alfalfa. Research has
repeatedly shown that including
a clover in grass
pasture can replace about
60 pounds of nitrogen per
acre. If at least 30 percent
of the ground area in a
pasture is covered by
clover, there will be no
need to apply any nitrogen
in the spring. If nitrogen
costs 25 cents per pound,
this would be a savings of
15 dollars per acre each
year.
4. More summer
growth
The majority of the
growth from cool season
grasses such as tall fescue
and orchardgrass occurs
during the spring and fall.
During the summer, high
temperatures and drought
cause these grasses to slow
or stop production. Several
legumes such as red
clover and annual lespedeza
can extend the
grazing season and provide
high quality pasture
that is otherwise unavailable
during this summer
forage slump with pure tall
fescue or orchardgrass
pastures.
Steps for renovation:
(1) Remove excess pasture
growth prior to renovation.
This is best done by
grazing down to a 1 - inch
stubble in late fall or winter.
Removing the excess
forage will help ensure the
legume seeds will come in
contact with the soil.
(2) Fertilize and lime according
to soil test.
Legumes require a
higher soil pH and fertility
level than do grasses. Fertilizing
by soil test will ensure
that legume
establishment will not be
limited by low pH, potash
or phosphate levels. DO
NOT APPLY NITRO-
GEN. Nitrogen will stimulate
grass growth,
thereby increasing the
competition with the
legume seedling.
(3) Select the proper
legume.
The major legumes
used in grass hay fields and
pastures in Tennessee are
white clover, red clover
and annual lespedeza.
White clover is the most
tolerant to grazing. Red
clover provides greater
forage yields and will be
productive later into the
summer than white clover.
Annual lespedeza will provide
more production during
mid to late summer,
especially on droughty
hillsides.
Be sure to plant certified
seed of a recommended
variety. Using
certified seed is the only
way to be sure of what you
are planting. Check with
Monroe County Extension
Office for recommended
varieties. Also be
sure to inoculate the seed
with the proper Rhizobium
bacteria, or purchase
preinoculated seed. This
Elvis Tribute Concert Set for February 16 and 17
Tulli Cole
Are you in the mood
for some great music from
the King of Rock? Or are
you, perhaps, searching for
a weekend of fun, excitement,
and memories-waiting-to-be-made
for your
family? Then look no further
than the Elvis Tribute
Concert, presented by
Etowah’s very own Gem
Theater and the Merchants
and Friends of
Etowah! It is coming up
this February!
The Merchants and
Friends of Etowah coordinate
the Elvis Tribute
Concert twice a year. The
funds raised by the event
are distributed throughout
the year to different educational
programs and literary
events for both
youth and adults.
The first concert of the
2013 season will feature
national and award-winning
Elvis-tribute artist
Matt Cordell. Cordell will
wow his fans with an
amazing performance of
many favorite and famous
Elvis songs.
And since the concert
comes on the coattails of
Valentine’s Day, you can
be sure several of those
tunes will be love-songs.
The first show is set for
Saturday, February 16, and
will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Cordell will return for a
second show on Sunday,
February 17, celebrating
group of fans. Who? Why,
our veterans, of course!
The Merchants and
Friends of Etowah and
Etowah Parks and Recreation
wish to honor all the
veterans—active, inactive,
and retired alike—who
have sacrificed so much
for the United States of
America, and this concert
is meant just for them.
Those sponsoring the
show would love to see the
Gem Theater filled with
veterans and their families
on February 17. In order to
make that happen, 500
seats need to be filled. As
the Merchants and
Friends of Etowah and
Etowah Parks and Recreation
do not want to
charge the veterans for the
show, they appreciate any
and all donations to help
cover ticket-costs and
other such expenses.
Every little bit helps.
Businesses and individuals
who would like to donate
to this worthy cause
can call coordinator Maxine
The Beat Goes On...
As Reported to the Officers
Monroe County Sheriff’s
Deputy Jason Russell
said he investigated a
Highway 411 theft on January
11, speaking with a
homeowner who said he
was missing a flat-screen
television, a Play Station
console, a sound bar, an I-
Pad tablet, a Kindle tablet,
and $200 in cash.
Sheriff’s Deputy Derrick
Graves said he was
dispatched to Scenic River
Road on January 12, taking
a report of a stolen Chihuahua
dog worth $350.
The dog’s owner said a vehicle
pulled into driveway
right before the dog went
missing.
On January 13, Russell
said he responded to
Michael Lane to look into
a report of a burglary that
resulted in the alleged
theft of a flat-screen television
and a leaf blower.
Sheriff’s Deputy
Franklin Steele said he was
dispatched to North Point
Road on January 13, right
after a resident encountered
three males, who
took two chainsaws valued
at $800 right after they
jumped the resident.
Sheriff’s Deputy
Michael Cansler said he
took a report of a stolen
$80 marine battery on
January 14, when a property
owner said vandals
also damaged his car trying
to steal a CD player
while the vehicle was
parked at his Rocky
Springs Road home.
Cansler was back on
January 15, arriving at a residence
on Rock Hill Road,
where several residents reported
over $4,300 worth
of property as taken, including
a $300 flat-screen
television, a $100 surround
sound, a $200 Nintendo,
Unemployment Numbers Climb In December
Greg Altum
Like most other Tennessee
counties (all but
two), Monroe County saw
its unemployment rate rise
for December 2012, according
to figures provided
by the Tennessee
Department of Labor and
Workforce Development.
Monroe County’s jobless
rate came to 9.9 percent in
December, rising from 9.1
percent in November and
12.1 percent one year ago.
Out of a total labor force
of 18,650, the county had
16,800 employed and
1,850 unemployed.
“It’s a traditional thing,”
said Jeff Hentschel, communication
directors for
the department. Schools
close for the holidays, and
manufacturing and construction
both slow down.
McMinn County saw its
unemployment rate go
from 8.3 percent in November
(and 9.8 percent
one year ago) to 9.0 percent
in December. Out of
a total labor force of
23,540, that county had
21,420 employed and 2,120
unemployed.
Loudon County saw its
unemployment rate go
from 5.6 percent in November
(and 7.1 percent
one year ago) to 6.2 percent
in December. Out of
a total labor force of
25,610, that county had
24,010 employed and
1,600 unemployed.
Blount County saw its
unemployment rate go
from 5.2 percent in November
(and 6.6 percent
one year earlier) to 6.2 percent
in December. Out of
a total labor force of
66,370, that county had
62,250 employed and 4,130
unemployed.
According to preliminary
figures not seasonally
adjusted figures, Tennessee
saw its unemployment
rate go from 6.9
percent in November (and
8.1 percent one year earlier)
to 7.6 percent in December.
Out of a total
labor force of 3,129,800,
the state had 2,891,000
employed and 238,700 unemployed.
The nation as a whole
also saw an increase in its
unemployment rate,
though noticeably smaller
than the increase for the
state and most of its counties.
According to preliminary
seasonally unadjusted
figures, the United States
saw its unemployment
rate go from 7.4 percent in
November (and 8.3 percent
one year earlier) to 7.6
percent in December. Out
of a total labor force of
154,904,000, the nation
had 143,060,000 employed
and 11,844,000 unemployed.
Williamson County had
the state’s lowest unemployment
rate for December,
coming in at 5
percent. Lincoln County
was the second lowest at
Secretary Hargett Warns businesses of Scam
Tennessee Secretary of
State Tre Hargett’s office
has received inquiries
about an official-looking
notice from Corporate
Records Service. It appears
that these notices
began arriving in mailboxes
around January 22,
2013. Corporate Records
Service is not registered,
affiliated, or associated
with the Tennessee Secretary
of State.
The mailer is causing
confusion for Tennessee
corporations due to its appearance
as an official
document. Tennessee corporations
are required to
file annual reports with
the Tennessee Secretary of
State. Most corporations
have also recently received
annual report notices
from the Secretary of
State.
Corporate Records
Services is requesting a
$125 fee. The standard fee
to file a corporation annual
report in Tennessee is
only $20.
“We can confirm that
Corporate Records Service
is not a business entity
on file with our office,”
Tennessee Secretary of
State Tre Hargett said. “I
Wreck
(Continued from pg 1)
The second driver, who
was operating a 2012 Ford
F-250 pickup truck, was
not injured in the collision.
Russell identified him
as 61-year-old William A.
Roach of Tellico Plains.
The accident happened
around 6:30 p.m.
According to Russell,
Cheek’s 1996 Toyota
Camry was eastbound on
Fairview Road when it
came out of a curve partially
on the wrong side of
the roadway. Roach, he
said, attempted to steer
the truck out of Cheek’s
way and avoid the crash,
but was unable to do so.
Customers may also call
the Business Services Division
at 615-741-2286 for
more information.
Reports of similar mailings
have surfaced in other
states including Florida,
Georgia, Idaho, Illinois,
Maine, New York, Texas,
and Washington.
The two vehicles hit
head-on, but the Toyota
continued to drift into the
oncoming lane.
Russell said Cheek was
not wearing a seatbelt.
However, Roach was
buckled inside the Ford.
Russell said he believed
Cheek’s use of a seatbelt
would have made a difference
in the accident.
It was unknown
whether Cheek had been
drinking or was under the
influence of drugs. Russell
said Roach had not been
drinking nor using drugs.
Blood tests were performed
on both men, he
said.
No charges or citations
were issued.
Antibiotic Resistance
A Growing Concern
Antibiotics, those wonderful
drugs that fight bacteria,
are losing their
healing powers for growing
numbers of people.
The Tennessee Department
of Health is working
to educate Tennesseans
that some antibiotics are
no longer effective for
some people due to antibiotic
resistance, a condition
that can be created when
antibiotics are overprescribed
or misused.
“When we are not feeling
well and visit our doctor,
we may expect him or
her to give us antibiotics
to treat our illness,” said
TDH Chief Medical Officer
David Reagan, MD,
PhD, a specialist in infectious
diseases. “It’s important
to know, however,
that antibiotics are intended
to treat bacterial
infections, not viral infections.
Since common colds
are viral infections instead
of bacterial, taking antibiotics
can have dangerous
side effects including causing
allergic reactions, or
unintended consequences
such as decreasing their
effectiveness when they
are needed to treat bacterial
infections.”
The American College
of Physicians estimates 50
percent of the 133 million
courses of antibiotics prescribed
in a year are not
necessary because they are
given for viral infections.
Other important reasons
why antibiotic resistance
develops are that patients
don’t finish taking the full
dosage prescribed for a
bacterial infection or they
give the unused antibiotics
to someone else.
“It’s important to finish
the full dose of antibiotics
your doctor prescribes,”
Reagan said. “Take the directed
amount each day
and for the number of
days as prescribed. For example,
if your doctor instructs
you to take two
pills daily for ten days, you
should not stop or cut
back to one pill daily if you
feel better in a shorter
amount of time. If you
don’t follow the prescription
instructions exactly,
bacteria can still be in your
body and, if not treated,
can become resistant to
future antibiotic treatments.”
It’s also important not
to give unused antibiotics
to others with similar illnesses.
The person getting
the drugs may not need
them or may not get the
dosage needed, and can
also develop antibiotic resistance
or suffer serious
side effects.
Antibiotics trace their
history to 1928, when the
first naturally occurring
one, penicillin, was discovered.
They gained widespread
acceptance in the
1940s, significantly reducing
death and illness from
many infectious diseases.
Because of widespread
misuse of antibiotics, the
Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention now
lists antibiotic resistance
among its top public
health concerns. To lean
Habitual Vehicle
Offender Apprehended
Driver Taken From behind the Wheel, Arrested
A Monroe County
driver entered into law enforcement
custody early
Saturday morning, when
police officers found him
driving impaired with
multiple driving violation
convictions.
Charged by Sweetwater
Police Patrol Officer
Danny Poe with habitual
motor vehicle offender,
driving under the influence
(DUI), and driving
on revoked license fourth
offense was Billy Wayne
Wright, 48, of Old Highway
11, Sweetwater.
Poe spotted Wright’s
vehicle on Main Street
around 3:30 a.m. and
pulled in behind it, he said.
The vehicle pulled into an
apartment complex parking
lot and Poe went past
and pulled over just ahead.
He said the vehicle came
back out and went past
him.
Getting in behind the
vehicle a second time, it
pulled off the roadway
Wright
into another parking lot.
Poe said he eased up right
behind the vehicle and
made contact with
Wright.
Wright smelled of alcohol,
Poe said. He then
checked Wright’s driving
status and found his license
revoked because of
a DUI and because
Wright was a habitual
motor vehicle offender.
Revoked convictions all
were from Loudon
County and ran from 1989
to 1993.
Wright was unable to
perform sobriety tests because
he told Poe he was
January 28, 2013
sick.
In another driving arrest,
Tennessee Highway
Patrol Trooper Cory Russell
on Friday charged
Garrett Marshall Hilb of
Henderson Drive, Madisonville
with third offense
driving on suspended license,
felony evading,
reckless driving, speeding,
and driving without insurance
and without registration.
Hilb ran from
Russell on Highway 68 but
Russell located his car on
Skydome Road, arresting
him.
