The Vonore Blue Devils<br />
traveled down Highway<br />
411 to square off against<br />
their county rivals, the<br />
Madisonville Middle<br />
School Eagles Thursday<br />
night, proving they were<br />
more than ready for the<br />
challenge and defending<br />
their home court on<br />
homecoming night with a<br />
big victory, 57-16.<br />
Madisonville jumped out<br />
early in the first period,<br />
playing great offense and<br />
defense. The Eagles guard<br />
tandem of Austen Harmon<br />
and Josh Brewster<br />
both made four baskets<br />
for eight points apiece and<br />
Eli Beard made a bucket<br />
for two points. Vonore's<br />
Aaron Smith and Trey<br />
Cook both made a shot<br />
for two points each, and<br />
after one quarter of play<br />
the Eagles led 18-4.<br />
The defenses held the<br />
upper hand in the second<br />
period as Madisonville<br />
outscored the Blue Devils<br />
9-6. Jordan Lingerfelt had<br />
a basket and drained a<br />
three-pointer for five<br />
points and Kayne Roberts<br />
and John Douglas Wiggins<br />
both had a bucket for two<br />
points each. Vonore's<br />
Chase Summey made a<br />
lay-up and buried a threepointer<br />
for five points and<br />
Braden Hansen tossed in a<br />
free throw for one point,<br />
and at the half Madisonville<br />
led 27-10.<br />
The Eagles’ defense really<br />
flexed its muscles in<br />
the third period, holding<br />
Vonore to just two points,<br />
those coming from Smith.<br />
The Madisonville offense<br />
played off that great defensive<br />
effort and put 17<br />
points on the board, as<br />
Harmon made three baskets<br />
and a free throw for<br />
seven points, Joc Upton<br />
hit three baskets for six<br />
points, and Roberts and<br />
Beard both made a shot<br />
for two points apiece, and<br />
after three quarters of play<br />
Madisonville led 44-12.<br />
Both teams continued to<br />
play hard in the fourth period<br />
but the Eagles still extended<br />
their lead,<br />
outscoring the Blue Devils<br />
