A homeowner in Dallas
shot and killed a man who
climbed through a window
and started to enter
his home, using deadly
force, or the “castle doctrine,”
as prescribed by
law. The intruder was
identified as 33-year-old
Deyton Pipkins, a man
with a lengthy criminal
history that included numerous
charges for theft,
trespassing, and drugs.
In Virginia Beach on
Friday, a pizza shop owner
announced he would give
gun owners a 15 percent
discount if the owners
would bring a gun or concealed
handgun permit to
his business, All Around
Pizza and Deli. Jay Laze
said on Tuesday that since
he made the statement, 80
percent of his customers
brought weapons to his
eatery.
NATIONWIDE
Authorities in Hamilton
County, Ohio, confirmed
on Monday that an
investigation was underway
following comments
earlier this month by a veteran
poll worker that she
voted six times for President
Obama three
months ago. Melowese
Richardson of Cincinnati
said yes, she voted twice,
so her vote would count,
but she was also accused
of voting four more times
using other people’s
names.
The National Weather
Service on Tuesday issued
a forecast that spotlighted
a Pacific Ocean storm that
was expected to bring a
foot or more of snow and
75-mile-per-hour wind
gusts to the mountain
areas of California and
then move on toward the
Midwest, laying down a
blanket of snow in its
wake. Originating in the
Gulf of Alaska, the system
could strike as far inland as
Chicago.
Meanwhile, the National
Climatic Data Center
said on Tuesday that
“climate change” was
bringing less snowfall to
the U.S. Midwest and
Northeast, but at the
same time was ushering in
more weather “knockout
punches.” Officials said
the outlook included
more giant blizzards but
fewer accumulations of
snowfall during the year.
AAA – the Automobile
Association of America –
said on Tuesday U.S. gas
prices had hit a fourmonth
high with 32
straight days of increases
at the pump, where the
national average for a gallon
of regular gasoline was
$3.73, or 43 cents more
than one month ago.
Prices had already topped
$4 in California and
Hawaii, AAA said.
A spokesperson for the
nonprofit National Re-
search Center for Women
and Families said on Tuesday
that research funded
by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration found that
hip replacements were
more likely to fail in
women than in men.
Though the risk for failure
of implants was low, females
were 29 percent
more likely to need repeat
surgery than men in the
first three years.
And according to
George Washington University’s
Dr. Neal Barnard,
what you eat can either
raise – or lower – your risk
for Alzheimer’s disease.
Appearing on CBS News
Your Memory said foods
laden with trans-fats and
saturated fats were not
only bad for one’s heart,
but could increase the
chances for Alzheimer’s
300 to 500 percent.
(Good foods? Dr. Barnard
said eat lots of green leaves
and dark berries, almonds,
and menus loaded with Vitamin
Rose
(Continued from pg 1)
James Fischer with possession
of Schedule IV drugs
was Dustin Dewayne
Rose of Greenbriar Road,
Sweetwater.
Fischer said he arrived
at an Old Federal Road
home where someone had
been cut. At the home, he
found Rose, who said a
girlfriend had thrown a
lamp at him and cut his
hand.
It was a finger, actually,
Rose’s ring finger, and Fischer
conducted a search of
Rose for safety. Rose said
he had xanax in his
pocket.
Fischer found a container
in the pocket, he
said, and inside it was 29and-a-half
one-milligram
xanax pills.
