A homeowner in Dallas 

shot and killed a man who 

climbed through a window 

and started to enter 

his home, using deadly 

force, or the “castle doctrine,” 

as prescribed by 

law. The intruder was 

identified as 33-year-old 

Deyton Pipkins, a man 

with a lengthy criminal 

history that included numerous 

charges for theft, 

trespassing, and drugs. 

In Virginia Beach on 

Friday, a pizza shop owner 

announced he would give 

gun owners a 15 percent 

discount if the owners 

would bring a gun or concealed 

handgun permit to 

his business, All Around 

Pizza and Deli. Jay Laze 

said on Tuesday that since 

he made the statement, 80 

percent of his customers 

brought weapons to his 

eatery.

Authorities in Hamilton 

County, Ohio, confirmed 

on Monday that an 

investigation was underway 

following comments 

earlier this month by a veteran 

poll worker that she 

voted six times for President 

Obama three

said yes, she voted twice, 

so her vote would count, 

but she was also accused 

of voting four more times 

using other people’s

The National Weather 

Service on Tuesday issued 

a forecast that spotlighted 

a Pacific Ocean storm that 

was expected to bring a 

foot or more of snow and 

75-mile-per-hour wind 

gusts to the mountain 

areas of California and 

then move on toward the 

Midwest, laying down a 

blanket of snow in its 

wake. Originating in the 

Gulf of Alaska, the system 

could strike as far inland as

Meanwhile, the National 

Climatic Data Center 

said on Tuesday that 

“climate change” was 

bringing less snowfall to 

the U.S. Midwest and 

Northeast, but at the 

same time was ushering in 

more weather “knockout 

punches.” Officials said

more giant blizzards but 

fewer accumulations of 

snowfall during the year. 

AAA – the Automobile 

Association of America – 

said on Tuesday U.S. gas 

prices had hit a fourmonth 

high with 32 

straight days of increases 

at the pump, where the 

national average for a gallon 

of regular gasoline was 

$3.73, or 43 cents more 

than one month ago. 

Prices had already topped 

$4 in California and 

Hawaii, AAA said. 

A spokesperson for the

he had xanax in his

Vonore Couple Celebrates Pageant Win 

Granddaughter Becomes Miss University of Alabama 

A college junior at 

Tuscaloosa won the title of 

Miss University of Alabama 

on Saturday and her 

Vonore grandparents are 

thrilled. 

Judges awarded the title 

to Miranda Ward, who 

competed against 14 other 

contestants this past Saturday. 

Judging ranged 

from individual interviews, 

swimsuit competition, 

talent, and evening 

gowns. 

In the individual honors, 

Miranda won the talent 

portion.

two valium pills wrapped 

in cellophane from his 

pocket and tried to hide 

them, Poe said.

The Fair Tax Act proposes 

a tax on all new merchandise 

and services in 

place of all income taxes, 

payroll taxes, corporation 

taxes, and taxes on dividends, 

interest, and capital 

gains. Critics of the act, 

which proposes a 23 percent 

inclusive tax, have 

confused the issue by saying 

that this law is in reality 

a 30% tax. To clear up 

this misinformation, consider 

the following explanation. 

The 23 percent tax is included 

in the stated price 

of each item or service. 

Thus for a $100 item, $23 

goes for taxes, and the remaining 

$77 pays the cost 

of the item. This is the 

same as saying that if you 

are in the 25 percent income 

tax bracket, for 

every $100 you earn, $25 

goes for taxes and you 

keep $75. On the other 

hand, if you divide $23 by 

$77 you come up with a 30 

percent tax; but to be fair, 

your income tax rate by 

this same method would 

be calculated by dividing 

$25 by $75, which is 33 percent. 

And if you add in your 

$7.65 payroll tax for social 

security, you now pay 

$32.65 and keep $67.35, 

which is really a 48.5 percent 

tax. Thus, the 30 percent 

Fair Tax rate looks 

good.

Stroupe allegedly took security

when he was picked up
