Dear Parents of Seniors,
The end of the school year is almost upon us and graduation is only weeks away. It is timely,
therefore, to repeat some of the information you were given last fall.
Neither graduation tickets nor a diploma will be issued until all academic requirements have
been met as well as all of the following obligations: financial (e.g. tuition, sweepstakes),
senior survey (due May 2 nd ), service hours and reflection paper (due May 3 rd ), detentions
served, books returned, fees paid, and sports uniforms returned.

Parents are reminded of Mercy’s policies with respect to Drugs and Alcohol and Year-End
Activities stated in the Student Handbook, page 24.
You and your daughters received the requirements for the graduation gowns last fall. Here
are those requirements:
- Dress must be long, white, not ivory or off white, including trims.
- Keep in mind your body type for comfort and modesty.
- Dress may be sleeveless or have straps of at least two inches in width.
- Dress may not be strapless or backless.
- Dress may not show cleavage.
- Dress may not have slits in the front, back or sides.
- Dress may not have a train.
- No shawls, hats, or other accessories may be worn.
- White dress shoes are required.
We are, indeed, grateful to the senior parents who are chairing this year’s All-Night Graduation
Party. The leadership planning this activity for the graduates is tremendous. It promises to be a
great evening! The enclosed consent form must be signed and returned to school in order for
your daughter to attend. Forms should be returned to the Reception Area by Friday, May 10 th .
Ample food is provided at the All-Night Graduation Party so graduates should not eat
beforehand. They should arrive between 10:30 p.m. and midnight.
As your thoughts move toward a possible graduation gift, I make one suggestion. The adopt-aseat
program in Mercy’s Auditorium would be one beautiful way to recognize your daughter and
her achievements and, at the same time, leave a legacy to Mercy. For a $200 donation, you

eceive an engraved brass nameplate prominently affixed to the arm and a certificate inscribed
with your daughter’s name and year of graduation. If you prefer, the plate can be engraved with
your family name and a personal message. Such a gift can benefit future generations of Mercy
women. If interested, please contact Christopher Blitz in the Advancement Office via email

Most graduating seniors will begin college this fall. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) recommend that college-bound high school seniors consider vaccination for
bacterial meningitis. CDC reports that college students living in dormitories, particularly
freshmen, are six times more likely to contract bacterial meningitis. Of the 3,000 reported cases
each year, 10 – 15 % are fatal. You may wish to contact your family physician.
