our activities
behalf of the City of
Amsterdam, the Port of
Amsterdam (port authority)
manages, operates and develops
the port (location and infrastructure),
which covers over
1,900 hectares of land and 600
hectares of water. The main aim
is stimulating economic activity
and employment in the entire
Amsterdam Port Area. (the
Ports of Amsterdam, Zaanstad,
Beverwijk and Velsen/IJmuiden).
The Port of Amsterdam has
three main tasks:
1. Providing top-quality services
to customers and creating a
business-friendly climate in the
port area. The focus is not only
on serving existing customers,
but also on attracting new clients
and new cargo flows through
marketing and promotion.
2. The construction, replacement
and maintenance of the port
infrastructure; as well as the
management of the Westpoort
port section.
3. Ensuring a safe, swift and
environmentally responsible
management of shipping traffic
within its working area, from
12 miles offshore IJmuiden to
the Orange locks (Oranjesluizen)
in Amsterdam, which includes
drawing up sound rules and
enforcing them strictly.
