In 2006, the Port of Amsterdam
took an important step forward
with respect to green energy.
The Port and Harvest Energy,
located in the Amerikahaven,
signed a contract for the construction
of the first bio-ethanol
plant in the Netherlands. In addition,
the Port of Amsterdam
began preparing the Greenmills
site in the Westhaven for the
construction of a plant that will
produce renewable energy using
organic waste flows. Equally
with the creation of a wind farm
in the port area – the secondlargest
in the Netherlands. In
2007, this wind farm will be expanded.
