pUrpose anD oBJeCtives<br />

purpose: The symposium will provide practitioners with clinically relevant information and state-ofthe-art<br />

treatment options on cardiovascular diseases that will enhance knowledge and performance and<br />

promote patient care. These topics will address practice gaps and integrate evidence-based information.<br />

• Examine the evidence base for statins in primary prevention of CAD<br />

• Identify the optimal targets for LDLc and optimal dosing of statins in the secondary prevention of CAD<br />

• Describe common and serious side effects to be aware of when prescribing statin therapy<br />

• Describe the development of current CPR guidelines<br />

• Recognize indications and appropriate procedures performed as a part of the sports physical<br />

• Review current data regarding interventions and care for the post-resuscitated patient<br />

• Describe the state of healthcare in the U.S.<br />

• Review the Affordable Care Act and where we stand with the enactment<br />

• Identify keys to success under healthcare reform<br />

• Review the management of hypertensive emergencies<br />

• Review the acute management of stroke<br />

• Review acute limb ischemia and its management<br />

• Listen to normal, unique and distinct heart sounds that provide auditory data regarding the condition of<br />
