Senior Petition One year prior to graduation (preferably spring of the junior year) students must file a senior petition. Single Subject The SB2042 Single Subject credential authorizes instruction in the subjects listed SB2042 Preliminary on the credential in departmentalized classes at any grade level including pre- Credential school, K-12, and classes organized primarily for adults, but is especially appropriate for middle school and high school. This credential also includes authorization to teach English language learners. SPED Acronym for Special Education. Standards Commission adopts program standards for each type of credential program. The State Board of Education adopts K-12 student academic content standards to define what students should know and be able to do. California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ TESOL Acronym for Teaching English as a Second Language. TESOL courses are offered through the School of Intercultural Studies (ICS). TPA’s Acronym for Teaching Performance Assessment. California law requires potential teachers to complete a Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) as one of the steps to earning a teaching credential. This assessment — made up of four individual tasks — is designed to measure how well a candidate meets the state‘s Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs), which define what teachers should know and be able to do. The Teacher Performance Expectations represent the range of knowledge, skills and abilities that beginning teachers should know and be able to demonstrate. Teacher performance expectations describe teaching tasks that fall into six broad domains: Making subject matter comprehensible to students; Assessing student learning; Engaging and supporting students in learning; Planning instruction and designing learning experiences for students; Creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning; and Developing as a professional educator. http://www.ctc.ca.gov/educator-prep/TPA.html U.S. Constitution Teaching credential candidates must demonstrate competency in the U.S. Constitution. This can be met by receiving a ―C‖ or above in HIST 107 or POSC 225 at Biola University or by passing a college examination on this content. Candidates transferring a U.S. History or Government course must present a course description from the college or university that verifies U.S. Constitution content or obtain a letter on institution letterhead that verifies this content. Passing scores on U.S. History or Government Advanced Placement exams does not meet the Constitution requirement. WASC Western Association of Schools and Colleges - This Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities is responsible for the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of colleges and universities offering the baccalaureate degree and above (e.g., MAEd, MAT, and Ph.D.) in California, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Basin.
