<strong>Sports</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Assessment Record<br />

Purpose<br />

The <strong>Sports</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Assessment Record Sheet is designed for<br />

the teacher/coach to record the athlete’s pre-assessment and<br />

post-assessment skill level. The teacher/coach can use the<br />

record sheet as a master list, which indicates several things:<br />

• Each athlete’s overall development in the program<br />

• The current ability levels of all the athletes in the progr a m<br />

• Comparable progress between athletes at the same<br />

ability level<br />

• Determination of the athlete’s placement on teams or<br />

future skills classes.<br />

Together, the <strong>Sports</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Assessment Record Sheet and the<br />

Daily Performance Record are effective training devices,<br />

especially for athletes with lower ability.<br />

Using the <strong>Sports</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> Assessment Record<br />

Sheet for Badminton<br />

The teacher/coach evaluates the athlete with the <strong>Sports</strong> <strong>Skills</strong><br />

Assessment Record before the athlete begins training. He or<br />

she enters the pre-training assessment score in the proper<br />

column on the sheet. After the athlete has trained in the sport<br />

skill of that particular level, a re-evaluation will take place<br />

and the teacher/coach enters the training assessment score in<br />

the corresponding achievement column. Of course, the<br />

teacher/coach may allow the athlete to fill in the record sheet<br />

or may post the results so the athlete can see what progress<br />

he or she is making and take pride in his or her achievement.<br />

The teacher/coach can also acknowledge each athlete’s<br />

improvement at an end-of-the season team party.
