At the session of the Southern California District Assembly, at Pomona, California, June
21-25,1916, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted by a rising vote:
WHEREAS, He who for many years was our leader in the Lord, and who was wont to be among
us in our District and General Assemblies, is no longer in our midst, to guide us by his wise
counsels, and to inspire us by his saintly and holy example; and,
WHEREAS, Phineas F. Bresee was raised of God as an evangel of holiness, and especially
anointed and fitted to conserve the results of holiness teaching and preaching by the promotion of
organized holiness and
WHEREAS, He was truly a prince in Israel, a mighty preacher of righteousness, a gifted and able
leader in the great holiness movement, and withal, a man of the deepest simplicity and humility of
spirit, having a heart of tenderest love, which always beat in sympathy, not only with those who were
perfect in love, and had their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb, but with those who had fallen,
who were cast down, discouraged, and forsaken, and,
WHEREAS, He adorned the doctrine of Christ by gladly forgiving his enemies, praying for those
heritage of his example and teaching, and the precious influence of his holy life; therefore, be it,
Resolved, That, though we deeply deplore his absence from among us, and miss more than words
is now basking in the heavenly light that shines around the throne of God, and rejoicing with joy
unspeakable and full of glory in the presence of the Savior whom he loved so well, and served so
faithfully during the nearly three score years of his ministry; and, be it further
Resolved, That we sympathize with Sister Bresee and all the members of her family in their very
great bereavement, and assure them that our earnest prayers ascend to God to keep and comfort them
very tenderly in this time of sadness and loneliness.
The following resolutions were adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees of the
Nazarene University, shortly after the decease of Dr. Bresee:
WHEREAS, Our dearly beloved and honored brother, friend, leader, and General Superintendent,
Dr. P. F. Bresee, having finished his course with joy and triumph, has been called to his heavenly
home, and has received his crown of final glory; and
WHEREAS, In labors more abundant as its great burden bearer, faithful founder, and loyal
supporter, he so devotedly served this institution, with his wise and far-reaching plans, and able and
paternal counsel; and,
WHEREAS, BY his courage and Christian heroism, as the great leader for organized holiness,
he unfurled a banner around which have gathered the united forces of the Pentecostal Church of the
Nazarene; and,
