lessing to multiplied thousands of people throughout the length and breadth of the land, which in
ever widening circles are sweeping around the world, bringing hope and encouragement to
sin-burdened hearts; therefore, be it
Resolved, By the First Church of the Nazarene of Los Angeles, California, that we hereby render
to Almighty God profound thanks for His great mercy in sparing to the church one so peculiarly
gifted for the work, who has been to us not only pastor, but a true helper, a tried friend and brother
indeed; that during these years he has gone in and out among us, visiting our homes, comforting the
sick and dying, burying our dead, and out of the fulness of his great heart, performing innumerable
deeds of kindness and benevolence, known only to Him who takes cognizance of each act done in
His name.
Resolved, That while we shall miss him in the more intimate relation of pastor; and, while we feel
keenly the necessity placed upon us to part with him, yet, recognizing his call to fields of greater
usefulness, and that the time has come for the enlarging of the work of organized holiness, not only
in the homeland, but throughout the world, we bow to this overruling providence, knowing that He
doeth all things well.
Resolved, That in accepting this resignation, we wish to record our unbounded confidence in him,
and also to express our great love and profound respect for him, and shall ever cherish among the
many precious recollections of his long and faithful pastorate, his wise counsels, his holy example,
his self-sacrificing devotion, and Christlike interest in our welfare.
Resolved, That we commend him to the ever watchful care and guiding hand of our heavenly
Father, and also to the church at large, and to all lovers of holiness, as one especially qualified by
his spirituality and experience to unify the forces in the holiness ranks, and to inspire them by his
faith for the great battle against sin and worldliness.
Resolved, That we extend to him as our General Superintendent at any and all times when it shall
be possible for him, a glad welcome to our pulpit, and we assure him that our hearts and our homes
are always open to him. And we trust that we shall be permitted to share together our mutual church
home until called to the church triumphant.
Resolved, That we tender to Sister Bresee, the devoted wife and faithful companion, who through
toil and sacrifice has ever shown the heroic spirit of true Christian womanhood, our highest esteem
and Christian affection, and assure her that her kindly ministry, her gentle nature, and true devotion
have won a place in our hearts never to be erased, and our constant prayer shall be that her useful life
may be spared to us for many years to come.
Resolved, That we express our high appreciation to the family for their uniform kindness, loyalty,
and generous support toward our cause, and we cherish the hope that together we may continue to
