A Representative Body
The preparations for the Assembly were on a large scale. A tabernacle that would seat probably
one thousand people, a boarding tent, etc., had been provided; the school building was made
contributory, and the people of the town had thrown open their houses. There was a large attendance,
not only from the Southland, but the North was much more largely represented than it had been
feared was possible, a large number of the representative people of the church being present. From
the beginning it was very evident that things were in the divine order. At the first session, which was
opened with the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, the manifest presence of the Lord was marvelous.
The service occupied a considerable part of the time of the session, with wave after wave of heavenly
glory sweeping over the hearts of the people. From that time the melted hearts began to flow
together, and it was soon evident that nothing could prevent, not only organic, but the soul unity of
the gathered forces .
Complete Unity
As the Assembly progressed, it was found that there were no serious hindrances to be overcome
in polity, and the faith being common between the churches represented, and the experience and
purpose one, things were rapidly adjusted until, on Tuesday, October 13th, at 10:40 a. m., the fact
of complete unity and oneness of the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene and the Holiness Church
of Christ was declared by a unanimous rising vote.
A Great Shout
The scene which followed was beyond description. Amid songs of praise and victory, the people
shouted a great shout; until finally it burst over all bounds, and they began to march through the
aisles of the great tent, until that could not hold them, and they began to march out and around the
tent, until at last they gathered on the campus, a great company of nearly a thousand people, who
sang and praised the Lord, with a brief address, emphasized by ebullitions of shouting and singing
between paragraphs. It was declared by all to be the greatest occasion they ever witnessed. There was
no holding back, no opposition, no criticism, but one mighty wave of holy victory and triumph,
which was probably never excelled this side of Pentecost. All said, We have seen great things today.
What God Hath Wrought
People were here from Nova Scotia to the Gulf of California, and from Puget Sound to the Gulf
of Mexico and all agreed that it was twice worth crossing the continent to be present. The Sabbath
and other specially devotional services were times of great blessing and a good tide of salvation.
Many were present to study the movement, and rejoiced with us at what God has wrought, and are
turning their steps this way.
It seems now a foregone conclusion that the holiness forces of this country will be very soon
largely united in one organic body. Many things have gone before to prepare the way, and now this
movement, at each progressive step, seems so providentially led, that one incoming wave seems to
