"Brother Hoover has a flourishing church organized at South Chicago, which we had hoped to
visit, but were not permitted at this time.
"Here we have again met Brother and Sister Brown, of Seattle, and with them turn our faces
toward the Northwest."
The Northwest
Dr. and Mrs. Bresee made the long trip from Chicago to Spokane in company with Rev. H. D.
Brown and wife. They spent one Sabbath in Spokane, Dr. Bresee preaching in the morning, and
Brother Brown in the evening, and found the Church of the Nazarene there in a flourishing condition.
In his editorial correspondence, Dr. Bresee says:
"We left Spokane on Tuesday morning in company with our traveling companions, Brother and
Sister Brown, reinforced by a good delegation from Spokane. Among them were Brother and Sister
Wallace, and several representatives of the church there; also Brother Little, pastor of the church at
Garfield. We arrived at North Yakima about 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
"Our church here feels the tide of general prosperity. During the last year a nice corner lot has
been purchased, and a good church building erected. Such provision has been made that it will be
unencumbered by debt. The membership has increased, and there has been prosperity. Much of this
has been due to the careful planting of Rev. J. B. Creighton, who was the first pastor, and to the
management of Rev. William S. Rice, the present pastor. The church here has also been greatly
indebted to Brother O. A. Clark, who, with his family, came to our church about a year ago. He is
one of the leading business men here, and at the same time a wise, careful laborer in the kingdom
of God. But, above all, the people--at first but a little band--have been true to the dispensational
truth, that Jesus Christ baptizes believers with the Holy Ghost; and the fire has rested upon their
Assemblies and homes, and the work has gone steadily forward.
The District Assembly
"The night preceding the Assembly, an earnest prayermeeting was held, and the seal of the Lord
was upon the gathered people. At 9 :30 a. m., Wednesday, the Assembly was called to order, and it
remained in session four days. The attendance was remarkably good, the reports were of great
interest, and the open doors seemed to be multiplying. The Lord is raising up laborers to enter the
various fields. A great advance has been made during the past year, and the promise is of much
greater things in the near future. The preaching was in the Spirit, and owned of the Lord, and a good
spiritual condition was dominant. Some souls were at the altar, which on the last night, the Sabbath,
was well filled with those seeking the Lord, all of whom were blest. During the Sabbath sixteen
persons were taken into the church. They were good representative people, among whom was Rev.
T. E. Webb, a superannuated member of the Northwestern Indiana Conference of the Methodist
Episcopal church. Dr. Webb is an able preacher, and a m an of evangelistic spirit, and indomitable
energy. He has a place on the street where he preaches every Sabbath afternoon, which he calls his
church. He is a clear teacher of entire sanctification, and felt that his place was among the people
who stand for this precious doctrine and experience. These additions were a great reinforcement to
