The writer penned the following in reference to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Berkeley:
Revival In Berkeley
"Ever since Sunday, September 30, 1906, when our dear Brother, Rev. H. N. Brown, of Everett,
Mass., preached for us morning and evening, a revival has been in progress in our church. God
helped Brother Brown to preach with special power and unction, and on that day several were
reclaimed, and at least one sanctified wholly. Without any human planning, and undoubtedly by
divine arrangement. there sprang into being a young men's class, of which Brother W. H. Girvin, my
eldest son, became, by common consent, the leader. This class meets Sunday morning at 9 o'clock
and Tuesday evening at 7 :30. It was not publicly announced, but more and more kept coming to the
meetings, until last Sunday morning thirteen were present, the largest attendance since the beginning.
Last Tuesday evening eleven attended and took part in the meeting, this being the largest number
present at any of the evening meetings. At the first meeting of this class there was a marvelous
outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and several were sanctified . Ever since, these meetings have been
seasons of great joy, tenderness, and power, and the spirit of prayer prevails among the young men
of the church as never before. There has been a marked quickening of spiritual life at all the services.
Since September 30th, not fewer than five have been reclaimed, and ten or more have been
sanctified. Seven have united with the church.
"There is a desire for similar work among the young women of the church, and the providential
indications are that it will soon begin.
"Rev. H. O. Wiley, our beloved pastor, who has done most of the preaching, and borne most of
the burden of the work, by reason of my long and frequent absences from Berkeley, is being blessed
in his ministry, and anointed of God as never before.
"For all these things we are praising God and giving Him the glory."
Dedication Of The Upland Church
Dr. Bresee preached the dedicatory sermon at the Church of the Nazarene in Upland, California,
on December 9, 1906, Rev. S. B. Rhoads preaching in the evening. At the close of Dr. Bresee's
sermon, the friends stood and sang, and then came forward and laid $538 upon the altar, after which
