place and crown. We believe that a very wide door has been providentially opened in Portland, and that there is to be another great lighthouse for God and holiness on this western coast. "Mrs. Whitesides, by her constancy and heroic devotion, the coming to Los Angeles of Mrs. Eaton, with the Hindoo missionaries, and the presence of several who had been in touch with the work at the Home Church, helped to make the fine result possible." North Yakima Leaving Portland on the night of July 4th, Dr. Bresee and the brethren with him, stopped long enough at Seattle to be welcomed by Sister Colburn. Continuing their journey over the mountains, they sojourned a little while at North Yakima, and held some very blessed services there. Dr. Bresee describes the trip across the Cascades, and through the great Yakima valley in his usual pleasing and poetic way, and tells of the stay in North Yakima as follows: "We were permitted to have two meetings with the dear Nazarene saints here. We can easily see solid advancement in the work since we were here a year ago. Brother Creighton, the pastor, is a man of excellent ability and deep devotion. At the first service it was a joy to baptize six children, four of them being the family of Rev. O. A. Clark, who, with his devoted wife, came to us from the Methodist Episcopal church. We then received nine persons into the church, after which I had the privilege of preaching the gospel, and many gathered at the altar to pray heaven down on our souls, and on the work of God. The following night, after the preaching of the Word, three promising boys knelt as seekers of holiness, with the whole church praying for the richer glory. At the close of the service, a very few moments sufficed for us to be on the train and in our berths, bound for Spokane." Dr. Bresee thus narrates his coming to Spokane, and the conditions environing our work there: The District Assembly At Spokane "This work of organized holiness was begun here about five years ago. It is the vine that creeps over the wall; it never ceases to grow and creep on, until it will stand in every place. "It seems to be in the province of God that its enemies shall minister to its growth, only less than its friends. The sword with which they would smite it, leaves their own hands bleeding. It is the fulfillment of the promise, 'No weapon formed against thee shall prosper.' Every missile meant for harm, God makes the messenger of good, and the seed is being rapidly sown through this great Northwest. "We are here more especially to be present at this second annual Assembly of the Northwestern District, of which Rev. H. D. Brown, of Seattle, is District Superintendent. The session opened July 11th, and continued for four days. There was a good attendance, representatives being present from North Yakima, Garfield, Tipso, Seattle, Plainview, Medical Lake, Wilson Creek, and Spokane--all in Washington--from Portland, and Ashland, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho. The work as reported, showed a great advance over last year. New places have been opened, and new agencies have been raised up. There has been much seed-sowing, with some harvesting, much preparing of the way for

oncoming conquests. There are many open doors. This whole northwestern country is open to this work of organized holiness. While the general strength of the work has been doubled during the past year, much greater victories await these heroic workers. The church at Spokane has secured very valuable property on the corner of Monroe and Sharp streets, not far removed from the center of the city, but in a good residence district, with excellent streetcar privileges, the church being nearly free from debt. Their temporary building reminds one of the old tabernacle, in Los Angeles, and is well adapted to their present needs. "North Yakima is moving for a church building, and has a fine outlook for the future. Garfield also has a church building, and is growing in strength. All rejoice over the newly-organized church at Portland, which they believe, in the providence of God, will be a great center of fire. Sister Whitesides represented them at the Assembly, and was full of enthusiasm and expectancy. Brother Rhoads has resigned at Ashland, desiring for a time to do evangelistic work. Brother Valjean, who has been serving at Boise, goes to supply Ashland. It was thought by the Assembly that there should be two strong evangelists in the field in this District, to open up and help push the work. Brothers Creighton and Rice have been designated for this work, and, as soon as North Yakima can secure a successor for Brother Creighton, they will be in the field. Brother and Sister Brown are constantly at work, and have now arranged for two tabernacle meetings, the first being at Alberton, Washington. Brother Rice is to assist them. He has come among us during the last year, and like his friend, Brother Creighton, is a man of strength and power, who feels that he has discovered his people in the Church of the Nazarene. The Home Campmeeting "The home campmeeting at Spokane opened July 6 and closed July 15, 1906. The outpouring of the Spirit of God upon the people was especially blessed. I have rarely been in a meeting where the presence of God was so manifest. Every meeting was victorious, and at nearly every service souls were converted or sanctified. At times the meeting rose to great heights of spiritual power, where everything seemed tossed upon its billows of holy power, and altars full of seekers were swept to the cross, while all about the house the wondering multitudes gathered. In the middle of the night three young men telephoned Brother Wallace, desiring him to come and pray for them, which he did, and they were blest. "When the Pacific Bible School was being discussed in the Assembly, one brother, eighty-three years of age, walking on crutches, rose and said: 'The only thing which prevents my going and taking a course in the Bible College, is the lack of means.' Afterward he told me that he was like one of old, lame in his feet, always sitting at the King's table. "On Sabbath thirteen united with the church at Spokane. Many said that for manifestation of divine glory and blessing, they had never seen anything like it. It did indeed, remind one of the Mount of Transfiguration, and we all said, 'It is good to be here."
