now of evergreen trees, the pines of power, and the lofty cedars of spiritual Lebanon. True, the
atmosphere is getting purer and more bracing, the view of the great sea of eternity more inspiring,
and the ascending path so difficult that only hind's feet can scale it. God and the good angels are
beckoning us upward.
"Yes, the little child is growing fast, the little cloud is overspreading the heavens, the air is being
surcharged with divine electricity, and a mighty spiritual storm is gathering.
The Spirit Of The Assembly
"I am deeply impressed with the spirit of this Assembly, the earnestness everywhere, the manifest
confidence in the marvelous future of our movement, the love which keeps the discussions sweet,
and the humility which never forgets that our work is wholly of God, and that apart from Christ we
can do nothing.
Distinctiveness Of Our Movement
"Another characteristic of the Assembly was the marked distinctiveness of our movement, and
the growing realization of this fact on the part of the members of the body. The movement at first
was somewhat inchoate, but, as the years went by, it took a more definite shape, and became more
and more differentiated from all other phases of Christian organization and life. Doubtless the
complete concept of our movement, with all its peculiarities, has been in the mind and purpose of
God from the beginning, but only dimly and gradually has the consciousness of this distinctiveness
dawned upon us. It is not within the province of this report to enumerate the characteristics which
make and mark the Church of the Nazarene, except as they manifested themselves in the General
Assembly. Prominent among them, however, may be noted our hopefulness, enterprise, and
unflinching loyalty to the great dispensational truth of holiness.
The Tide Of Power
"From the moment when the Assembly was first called to order, to its final adjournment, there
was a marked and constantly growing tide of divine power. It seemed as if God sought to manifest
His presence at every opportunity, and to accentuate in every possible way the spiritual side of the
work. In the midst of discussions and reports of committees, there would be blessed sounds of a
going in the tops of the mulberry trees, and ripples of glory extending with lightning-like rapidity
from heart to heart. Glad hallelujahs resounded, happy smiles irradiated faces, and eyes were filled
with holy joy. Thus no business session was permitted by our good and kind Heavenly Father to
become tiresome or tedious, or to descend to the level of the merely human and secular.
The Devotional Exercises
"The religious services with which each business session was begun, were filled with unction and
sacred triumph. God gave the members of the Assembly very much of the spirit of prayer and
supplication, and prompted them to hearty praise. The leaders of these various services seemed to
be especially prepared and anointed, and the Scripture messages given were timely and helpful.
