"A hall has been rented and furnished, and regular services instituted. We were permitted to be
with them for six services. Brother Kent came this way and tarried for a day, preaching once, and
going on his way to Spokane. The meetings were attended with a good degree of interest, helping,
as we believe, to establish in the minds of the people, a work which to them is new. The experience
of the saints has been reinforced, and some souls have been blessed. We believe that under the
experienced, able, and anointed leadership of Brother Creighton, the work will succeed. This seems
to be the place for the planting of the work in this valley, and to be in the good providence of God,
and it doubtless means much for His glory. Let the saints pray that this valley, which is to be an
empire, may be filled with the spirit of holiness, which is the spirit of Jesus.
"The trip over the Cascades, up and down the dashing rivers, amid the beautiful mountain views,
with its ever-varying scenery and coloring, never loses its charm. It is a matter of real regret to see
the thousands of acres of timber devastated and ruined by the forest fires. But it is of small moment
in comparison to the real condition of the country caused by the raging fires of worldliness. Oh, that
through the springing forth of the river of life, the wilderness may become the garden of the Lord.
"We turn our eyes to Spokane, where the District Assembly is to meet, and then toward our
much-loved people at home."
Walla Walla
While in the Northwest, Dr. Bresee, in company with the Rev. H. D. Brown, visited Walla Walla,
where he met a little company of saints, who were interested in the work of the Church of the
Nazarene, and explained to them the plans, principles, and polity of the Church of the Nazarene.
Leaving Walla Walla, he turned his face homeward, but stopped over a few days in San Francisco
and nearby places. Of this, however, we will tell in the next chapter.
