But he is found in his temple, where two or three are gathered together in<br />

his name, in secret prayer, in self-denial, in fasting, in self-examination.<br />

He also dwells in the humble, contrite spirit, in the spirit of faith, of love,<br />

of forgiveness, of universal obedience: in a word, he dwells in the heaven<br />

of heavens, whither he graciously purposes to bring thee, if thou wilt<br />

come and learn of him, and receive the salvation which he has bought for<br />

thee with his own blood.<br />

The church or chapel in which the blind and lame are not healed has<br />

no Christ in it, and is not worthy of attendance.<br />

Those who come, under the influence of God's Spirit, to places of<br />

public worship, will undoubtedly meet with Him who is the comfort and<br />

salvation of Israel.<br />

The soul that relishes God's word is ever growing in grace by it.<br />

Those who suppose themselves to excel all others in piety,<br />

understanding, &c., while they are harsh, censorious, and overbearing,<br />

prove that they have not the charity that "thinketh no evil;" and in the<br />

sight of God are only "as sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal." There<br />

are no people more censorious or uncharitable than those among some<br />

religious people who pretend to more light and a deeper communion with<br />

God. They are generally carried away with a sort of sublime highsounding<br />

phraseology, which seems to argue a wonderfully deep<br />

acquaintance with divine things: stripped of this, many of them are like<br />

Samson without his hair.<br />

The mere preaching of the gospel has done much to convince and<br />

convert sinners; but the lives of the sincere followers of Christ, as<br />

illustrative of the truth of these doctrines, have done much more. Truth<br />

represented in action seems to assume a body, and thus renders itself<br />

palpable. In heathen countries, which are under the dominion of <strong>Christian</strong><br />

powers, the gospel, though established there, does little good, because of<br />

the profane and irreligious lives of those who profess it. Why has not the
