Chapter 7
Conclusion
The meaning and implications of this study are addressed in this chapter. Several observations
were made as a result of researching the two hundred articles that were chosen for this project.
Two Main Problems
The first observation considered was in response to the two main problems that were proposed
in Chapter One of this study. The first problem asked the question, "To what degree has the doctrine
of entire sanctification as expressed in articles in the God's Revivalist changed theologically during
the period 1900-1990?" The hypothesis to this problem stated: "No significant change has taken
place in the doctrine of entire sanctification as appearing in the God's Revivalist."
After studying the articles, the research indicated that this hypothesis was correct. The message
of entire sanctification was consistent throughout the twenty-year period that was researched,
especially in relationship to the four theological camps that were developed for this project.
The Pentecostal-Substantive view was overwhelmingly the position that was taught in each of the
five-year periods. In 1906-1910 thirty-five articles of the fifty selected supported the
Pentecostal-Substantive view, in 1930-1934 there were thirty-eight, in 1956-1960 there were
thirty-five, and in 1980-1984 there were thirty-two articles that taught that original sin was a
substance removed in sanctification by the power of the Holy Spirit.
There was also a consistent representation of the Christological-Substantive position found in the
material. In 1906-1910, out of the fifty articles studied during those years, eleven of them supported
that position. In 1930-1934 there were nine, in 1956-1960 there were ten, and in 1980-1984 there
were twelve articles that taught that original sin was a substance that the redemptive work of Christ
could remove in sanctification.
So, as these numbers indicate, there was a consistent message proclaimed in the God's Revivalist
about sanctification. Also, there was consistency in another way in that there were no articles out of
the two hundred studied that supported either the Christological-Relational view or the
Pentecostal-Relational view.
In Chapter One a second element dealt with the condition of God's Bible School in relationship
to the types of articles about entire sanctification that were printed in the God's Revivalist. The
second problem stated, "To what degree has the governance, fiscal, and educational condition of
God's Bible School contributed to the exposition of the doctrine of entire sanctification in the God's
Revivalist? It was hypothesized that the condition of the School has had no material influence on the
exposition of the doctrine."
