Clinical services gets new director
Lisa M. Beitz started with Hanover County as intern working on master’s
Lisa M. Beitz came to Hanover County
Community Services as a graduate school
intern in 1993 and liked it so much that she
has spent most of her professional career
here.
The feeling is mutual: climbing the ladder
steadily, she has now been named
director of clinical services.
“I am glad to be in Hanover,” Beitz said.
“I love the sense of community, both in the
CSB and in the county. Community members
often grow up here, go to school here,
they may go off to college but often they
came back here and raise a family. There
is such a great respect here for people and
tradition and our community.”
A Virginia Beach native, she first
stepped foot into Hanover when she was
earning her master’s in social work from
Virginia Commonwealth University.
She spent her internship here working
as part of the children’s team providing
mental health and substance abuse outpa-
tient services to young people.
Beitz returned in 1997 as a clinician
before being promoted to Comprehensive
Services Act (CSA) coordinator.
She left for another professional opportunity
in 2001 but
returned in 2003 as
a clinical supervisor
for children’s outpatient
services.
She has stayed here
since, moving up to
coordinator for children’s
services before
her most recent pro-
BEITZ motion, which took
effect on Nov. 1.
As director of clinical services, Beitz is
responsible for the divisions of children’s
services, adult services, crisis services and
prevention services.
She replaces Margaret Sellers, whose
last day was earlier this month.
“The beautiful thing about moving into
this position is that the coordinators of
these services are experts in their areas,”
Beitz said. “They know what is best for
their clients and how to deliver the services
most efficiently and effectively. They are
very good at what they do, which has made
the transition very smooth.”
“It’s very exciting to have grown up
with Hanover Community Services,” she
said. “People have been really supportive
and encouraging, it’s been incredible. I love
Hanover.”
“Lisa is a great addition to our management
team,” Community Services executive
director Thomas M. Slaven said. “She is a
respected colleague and will do a great job
moving services into the future.”
Beitz and her husband Bill have two
sons, Sammy and Jake.
