Flynn Center for the Performing Arts

Over many years, the Flynn has sustained the excellence of
its programs and provided deeper artistic experiences for a
broadening community of patrons while meeting financial
goals. In recognition of its accomplishments, the Flynn
is frequently awarded some of the most substantial and
prestigious grants and accolades available. The following
selection of honors and awards are testament to that success:
The Ford Foundation and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation honored the Flynn with prestigious millennial
grants. These foundations independently selected the Flynn as a national arts leader, one whose future they wanted
to help secure. We’re proud to note that the Flynn was the only organization selected by both institutions.
The Flynn received the Arts Presenters/MetLife Foundation Award for Innovation in Arts Access
recognizing the Flynn for its services to the disability community and for spearheading a collaboration with other
regional presenters to create an unprecedented, seven-week tour of the physically integrated AXIS Dance Company.
The Flynn received the 2007 Outstanding Historic American Theatre Award at the national conference
of the League of Historic American Theatres for being “a compelling example of contemporary programming
excellence in a beautifully renovated space that thoughtfully engages its community and an inspiration to other
small cities.”
The National Endowment for the Arts provides major funding for Flynn performances, educational
residencies, and the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. NEA programs include the NEA Jazz Masters on Tour.
The New England Foundation for the Arts provides essential support through such programs as the
National Dance Project, New England States Touring, Expeditions, and Meet-the-Composer. NEFA itself receives
funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation, Atria Group, Inc., the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Fund, and the six state arts agencies of New England.
The National Performance Network provides support for artist residencies and creation of new works.
