Partitions in business architecture models Chapter 4: Business Architecture Models 44 For example, the figure below shows a complete partition of the Products for Sale product into subproducts named Hard Goods and Services. The fact that the partition is complete means that each product for sale is either a hard good or a service. There are no products for sale that are neither hard goods nor services. Superproduct Complete partition Subproducts Incomplete partitions An incomplete partition represents an incomplete division of a superactivity or superproduct. In an incomplete partition, there can be occurrences of the superactivity or superproduct that are not also occurrences of one of the subactivities or subproducts. For example, the figure below shows an incomplete partition of the Promote Products activity into subactivities named Run Telemarketing Campaign, Run Direct Mail Campaign, and Run Advertising Campaign. The fact that the partition is incomplete means that there may be promotional activities that involve neither telemarketing, direct mail, nor advertising.
Generalizations in business architecture models Generalizations in business architecture models In a business architecture model, a generalization is a relationship between a single superactivity or superproduct and a single subactivity or subproduct. An activity or product can participate in multiple generalizations, but each one represents a relationship to only one other activity or product. Also, each generalization is semantically independent of the others (for example, generalizations make no statements about mutually exclusivity). The figure below shows a product generalization in which the superproduct is Services and the subproduct is After-Sale Services.
