The output from this activity is sales information that’s critical to developing product marketing strategies. The market demand generated by this activity is part of the information used in performing sales information analysis. Information about products for sale, on the other hand, is the result of product development. This activity is outside the scope of product marketing.
Activities Activities About activities In a business architecture model, activities represent responsibilities or, more precisely, actions taken to carry out responsibilities. They consume resources (their input) and produce products (their output). For example, in the Product Marketing Operations model, the Analyze Sales Information activity uses resources named Market Demand, Products for Sale, Industry Regulations, and Competition and generates output named Critical Sales Information. Internal and external activities Many resources, one product Activities belong to the #ACTIVITY class. From the perspective of the Product Marketing Operations model, Analyze Sales Information is an internal activity. That is, it falls <strong>with</strong>in the scope of what are considered to be product marketing operations. Business architecture models can also show external activities. An external activity is an activity whose performance lies outside the scope of the model. Like an internal activity, an external activity can also consume resources and produce products. You include external activities in business architecture models to show the origins of resources consumed by internal activities or the consumption of products they produce. For example, the Develop Products activity in the Product Marketing Operations model is an external activity that produces Products for Sale, which is a resource for the Analyze Sales Information activity. External activities belong to the #EXTERNAL_AGENT class. An activity can consume many resources, but generally should produce only one product. By restricting an activity in this way, you focus on the purpose of the activity that is most in line <strong>with</strong> the visions and goals of your enterprise or the role of your application.
