Lean Manufacturing Cluster Activities
The committee has so far formed four manufacturing
Clusters under the National Manufacturing
Competitiveness Program (NMCP), launched by the
Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
The two clusters viz. Auto Component Cluster and White
Goods Cluster successfully completed the project
activities. Members of the Auto Components Cluster are
into the second year (advanced lean). The third
cluster 'Machining and Press Parts Cluster' is into

the fourth phase of implementation. The fourth cluster,
'Light Engineering Cluster' is in its second phase.
MCCIA has facilitated 40 small scale manufacturing
companies to start a journey towards achieving
manufacturing excellence. The participating companies
have benefitted by way of improvement in productivity,
material movement, plant layout, reduction in inventory
levels, reduction machine breakdown, enhanced
workers participation, positive work culture and last but
not the least, enhanced customer confidence.
Common training programs and review meetings have
been organized for each cluster. 27 for Auto Component
Cluster (Year II), 13 for White Goods Cluster and 14 for
Machining and Press Parts Cluster.
Industrial Study Tour
A delegation comprising of 30 CEOs and Coordinators of
the Lean Manufacturing Clusters companies visited
Polyhydron Pvt. Ltd. situated at Belgaum. The members
of the delegation visited the production facilities of the
company and gained first hand experience and
information on various lean initiatives deployed by the
company. The members also had an opportunity to
interact with the CEO of the Company and get valuable
inputs.
Meetings, Symposiums and Workshops
In order to strengthen the computer skills of small scale
entrepreneurs various workshops were held in which we
saw good participation from the SMEs.
The workshops that were held for improving the working
knowledge of computers are as follows;

• Multiply Your Skills under MS Excel (Two Day
workshop)
• Advance Features of MS Word
