Lean Manufacturing Cluster Activities<br />

The committee has so far formed four manufacturing<br />

Clusters under the National Manufacturing<br />

Competitiveness Program (NMCP), launched by the<br />

Ministry <strong>of</strong> MSME, Government <strong>of</strong> India.<br />

The two clusters viz. Auto Component Cluster and White<br />

Goods Cluster successfully completed the project<br />

activities. Members <strong>of</strong> the Auto Components Cluster are<br />

into the second year (advanced lean). The third<br />

cluster 'Machining and Press Parts Cluster' is into<br />

the fourth phase <strong>of</strong> implementation. The fourth cluster,<br />

'Light Engineering Cluster' is in its second phase.<br />

MCCIA has facilitated 40 small scale manufacturing<br />

companies to start a journey towards achieving<br />

manufacturing excellence. The participating companies<br />

have benefitted by way <strong>of</strong> improvement in productivity,<br />

material movement, plant layout, reduction in inventory<br />

levels, reduction machine breakdown, enhanced<br />

workers participation, positive work culture and last but<br />

not the least, enhanced customer confidence.<br />

Common training programs and review meetings have<br />

been organized for each cluster. 27 for Auto Component<br />

Cluster (Year II), 13 for White Goods Cluster and 14 for<br />

Machining and Press Parts Cluster.<br />

Industrial Study Tour<br />

A delegation comprising <strong>of</strong> 30 CEOs and Coordinators <strong>of</strong><br />

the Lean Manufacturing Clusters companies visited<br />

Polyhydron Pvt. Ltd. situated at Belgaum. The members<br />

<strong>of</strong> the delegation visited the production facilities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company and gained first hand experience and<br />

information on various lean initiatives deployed by the<br />

company. The members also had an opportunity to<br />

interact with the CEO <strong>of</strong> the Company and get valuable<br />

inputs.<br />

Meetings, Symposiums and Workshops<br />

In order to strengthen the computer skills <strong>of</strong> small scale<br />

entrepreneurs various workshops were held in which we<br />

saw good participation from the SMEs.<br />

The workshops that were held for improving the working<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> computers are as follows;<br />

• Enhance Office Productivity by Effectively using MS<br />

Office<br />

• Multiply Your Skills under MS Excel (Two Day<br />

workshop)<br />
