enthusiasm among the CEOs has
ensured meaningful participation and
turn-around among the cluster
companies. This cluster is about to

complete its 9 month of participation
and has stepped into its final phase.
The Machining and Press Parts
Lean Manufacturing Cluster also
comprises of ten companies and are all
located around Bhosari, Chikhali and
Chakan industrial areas. Barring one or
two companies all are in the business of
press parts and machining. This cluster
is in its first phase i.e. diagnostic phase.
Approach adopted to implement
L e a n : To m a t e r i a l i z e l e a n
implementation in SMEs, hand-holding
on the shop-floor is more important
than classroom training. Keeping this in
mind maximum time is spent on shopfloor
demonstrations. Apart from this,
every month training, review and visits
are organized to systematically lead the
cluster group towards attainment of
cluster objectives. Broadly the approach
for implementation could be divided in
the following phases :
1. Diagnostic study report preparation
2. Organization setting and 5S

Ever since I took over as Chairman SME, I wanted to speak the language the
entrepreneur wanted to hear and do JUST that what was effective.
Entrepreneurs in excess of 50 in numbers responded to the very first appeal we
mailed to 400 listed SMEs. In line with our VISION we have worked painstakingly to
ensure success in the Lean journey which has been achieved by all members of Auto
Cluster. Cluster II is not far behind. They are putting in long hours to meet targets.
Cluster III members will experience a similar joy.
Finally we will have a Cluster of manufacturers in Pune which we all could be proud
off and showcase to the world their competitive edge. All through MCCIA efforts.
