<strong>The</strong> best method of combat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>termodulation distortion is to make <strong>the</strong> buffer amplifier<br />

system as l<strong>in</strong>ear as possible (beware of rail-to-rail op amps that may not be l<strong>in</strong>ear near<br />

<strong>the</strong> voltage rails). Try to limit current through <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternal feedback resistor <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> DAC.<br />

See Paragraph 14.7.1 on <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> voltage rail for suggestions about reduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />

feedback resistor power dissipation.<br />

<strong>The</strong> settl<strong>in</strong>g time of a D/A converter is <strong>the</strong> time between <strong>the</strong> switch<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> digital <strong>in</strong>puts<br />

of <strong>the</strong> converter and <strong>the</strong> time when <strong>the</strong> output reaches its f<strong>in</strong>al value and rema<strong>in</strong>s with<strong>in</strong><br />

a specified error band (Figure 14–13). Settl<strong>in</strong>g time is <strong>the</strong> reciprocal of <strong>the</strong> maximum D/A<br />

conversion rate.
