<strong>Op</strong> Amp Noise<br />

<strong>10</strong>.5.4 Invert<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Op</strong> Amp Circuit Noise<br />

If <strong>the</strong> previous circuit is operated <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>vert<strong>in</strong>g ga<strong>in</strong> stage, <strong>the</strong> equivalent circuit becomes<br />

that shown <strong>in</strong> Figure <strong>10</strong>–9:<br />

<strong>The</strong> additional voltage sources e1 through e3 represent <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>rmal noise contribution<br />

from <strong>the</strong> resistors. As stated <strong>in</strong> Paragraph <strong>10</strong>.3.2, <strong>the</strong> resistor noise can also be discounted<br />

if <strong>the</strong> values are low. Resistor noise will be omitted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> examples that follow.<br />

R3 is also not usually present, unless low common-mode performance is important. Delet<strong>in</strong>g<br />

it and connect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> non<strong>in</strong>vert<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>put directly to (virtual) ground makes <strong>the</strong> common<br />

mode response of <strong>the</strong> circuit worse, but may improve <strong>the</strong> noise performance of some<br />

circuits. <strong>The</strong>re will be one less noise source to worry about. <strong>The</strong>refore, <strong>the</strong> equivalent circuit<br />

becomes that shown <strong>in</strong> Figure <strong>10</strong>–<strong>10</strong>:<br />
